Pullout Problem - What Would You Do?

Our cabinets were installed yesterday. They are absolutely beautiful.

We have one pullout cabinet with drawer above. It is an 18" cabinet and there are two drawers on the pullout.

The bottom shelf on the pullout seems so inaccesable. Should I:

1) Live with it and see if I end up liking it

2) Change it to a regular door with two roll out trays?

3) Change to drawers (my least favorite option because its the most expensive option)

My plan was to put baking supplies in there - flour, sugar, salt, baking powder etc. The top part is fine for that, but the bottom shelf doesn't seem like it would work now that I see it in my kitchen.

Can anyone post pictures of their 18" rollouts and how they use them?

Can you post a pic? A little confused with the way you are described the pullout with 2 drawers on the pullout and then shelves. Is the bottom shelf the bottom drawer? If you post a picture, maybe there is something that can be done to modify your existing pullout. Not sure if it is one of the pre-fab ones like the rev-a-shelf.

I have a 15" pullout. Its full height, no drawer above. Its made to look like a drawer and door front. Inside there are three rollout drawers. The drawer/door front is attached to the bottom drawer. So when you pull out the drawer front (Since I only have hardware on the drawer front piece) the bottom drawer rolls out. Then I have two other rollouts that are independent. One is up high at normal drawer height and I currently have my spices there. Then the second rollout has my oils, vinegars, salts, etc. In the bottom rollout that is connected to the drawer/door panel, I currently have grains like Pasta, Rice and sauce.

I had the sides drilled out so I can always move the two inner rollouts up or down.

I just started using my Kitchen a few weeks ago and probably still need to move and shuffle some things around.

I'll try to post a photo tonight.

Basically, there are two shelves that pull out with the door front and the bottom seems inaccessible.

You want something like this. Look for pullouts called "2-tier." Each shelf operates independently. This is a Rev-a-Shelf:

Thanks Marcolo, I sent that to our cabinet maker. This is what we have now:

Oh dear! Saw50st8, that is horrible. What Marcolo said.

that's ridiculous. make them change it.

the only thing I can see possible/worth using the lower one for would be sliding a pot or 2 onto it. It'd be a PITA tho.

here are a few more pics to show your cabinet maker since he didn't understand the first time... have him NOTE that ONLY the bottom 'drawer' is attached to the 'door' part.

I wouldn't give final pymt until it's changed.

these are all from gw'ers I think -

    Thanks.

My cabinet maker is really nice and totally willing to fix it to make us happy.

He does a lot of higher end homes (thats actually how we found him - my friend is rather wealthy and she used him, as her parents had used him also 20 years ago). He does excellent quality work and it lasts. I was surprised the bottom was so useless. If the upper shelf was higher, the bottom wouldn't bother me.

"My cabinet maker is really nice and totally willing to fix it to make us happy. "

that's a good thing - then you should be fine once it's fixed!

Did anyone else hear Dr. Phil's voice when they saw that cabinet?

"What the hail where you thinkin' "...

I'm glad he is resolving it for you without any problem. He was probably confused when you were working on the plan and he thought this is what you wanted..... he was probably thinking the same Dr. Phil thought above. lol
