I went by the house after school, as usual, and the painter had taped a nice enough note to the door that he was quitting, because he couldn't finish on our schedule (he's been on it for a month, we need it done by the first week of June, he has another job). He'll send me a bill for the work done so far.

So I called DH and a few minutes later he called back to tell me the replacement painter would meet me there in half an hour. This is the guy (another high school classmate) who did the outstanding job on our sheetrock. I didn't know he was also a painter until I had already made a deal with the one who just quit.

So, he can't start for a week, but he says it will take him about a week to do. $12 an hour. I already have all the paint.

I think I should be relieved.
