LOOKING for: Coconut/Chocolate Chip Bar

I am not sure what the name of these bars are, but they have a crust, and they have coconut and pretty much unmelted chocolate chips on the top of them. I'm not sure about the other ingredients. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?!?! TIA

Check out the recipe below to see if it sounds the same.

Thanks, Ginger -I don't think there is cocoa in the crust but I'm going to give this one a try. A tried another recipe that looked close but it wasn't the right one. I think it's one of those basic recipes that was always in a Nestle or Bakers ad but I never wrote it down because I figured it was too fattening and I shouldn't be making them anyway! I realized after posting that this should probably be on the dessert post too -- it's not my most organized day!

Amazing..my workmate and I were just discussing such a cookie that was served at a party she attended this past weekend! She was trying to figure what was in them too.

I just made these for a friend. They are the best! Here's the original recipe with a little different proportions than the one posted above. A 9x13 pan is used in this version.

This isn't exactly it but when you first posted the first thing I thought of was Congo Bars. Here's a recipe for them from the Congocookbook.com. I won't post the link because it's really loaded with pop-ups. Could it be a variation of these? This one has the chocolate chips mixed in the batter but check it out anyway.

    two cups flaked coconut
one-half teaspoon salt (omit if using salted butter)
    one teaspoon baking powder
    two cups all-purpose flour
one cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
one & one-half cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
    two eggs, lightly beaten
    two teaspoons vanilla
    one & one-half cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

    What you do

All ingredients should be allowed to come to room temperature if they have been in the refrigerator. Preheat oven to 350° F.

Mix (or sift) together the salt, baking powder, and flour.

When oven is hot, place the coconut on a cookie sheet and toast until lightly browned (one or two minutes). Remove and let cool.

Using an electric mixer, mix together the butter and brown sugar. Add the beaten egg bit by bit, mixing well. Add vanilla. Stir in the flour mixture. Mix well with wooden spoon.

Gently stir in the chocolate chips and the toasted coconut.

Lightly grease (or butter) and flour a 9- x 13-inch cake pan. Spread the batter into the pan. Bake at 350° F for about 25 minutes. Remove from oven as soon as a sharp knife inserted into the center pulls away clean. Careful not to over-bake. Cool, cut into bars (or squares) and serve.

The coconut can be replaced, in whole or part, with your favorite chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts . . . ).

You guys are great! Thanks to everyone for posting recipes -- Tracey, that is exactly what I remember them looking like, although I don't remember butterscotch chips- And Congo bars sound familiar too -- sigh, I guess we'll just have to give all these versions a whirl and see which one we like best! Thanks for posting the recipes!
