Here's an example of a small modern powder room where we tiled behind the toilet up to the wall and did not tile on another wall to accommodate and art niche:

Tiling with the wavy tile floor to ceiling on the accent wall (which I'm assuming is the sink/vanity wall) would look nice. Then you could tile halfway on the rest of the walls. Here is a photo that illustrates this concept:

why not paint the wall a grey that will transition the tile on the wall into the floor? that would be my suggestion

Tiling to the ceiling can be a beautiful look. Here are some practical considerations:

1. The wavy tile is tons of fun but use it in small doses both because of cost and maintenance. Bathrooms are rooms where you can have a lot of particulates floating around such as fibers and dander. The wavy tile when moist from humidity can trap the particulates on the individual waves making for extra cleaning.
2. To keep your tile shower looking great for years to come, it is important to squeegy the walls after each shower, this will keep your maintenance down considerably. However, the wavy tile will not squeegy very easily. Additionally, it is recommended to use liquid soap or glycerin soaps, not bar soaps.
3. If you are considering a skirted toilet, make sure your supply lines are adequately set to allow install of the toilet. The extra thickness from the toilet can make this an arduous task.
4. When taking two or more tile types up a wall to the ceiling make sure the thickness of the all the tiles are compatible and/or that there are complimentary transition pieces to give the install a truly finished look.
5. Think about hardware such as towel bars, toilet paper holders, mirrors, etc. If there is considerable texture to the tile, can you install hardware securely?

For cost, maintenance and visual bang for your buck, I would recommend tiling to the ceiling on one-two walls.

The wavy tile will look fabulous if you take it to the ceiling on just one wall. You've been given some great advice by the posters above, so select your accent wall with care. It sounds as though it would work best on a wall that is not in the shower. Whatever you choose to use in the shower, it, too, should go to the ceiling.

Floor to ceiling tiles are definitely the more contemporary way to go, but it doesn't have to be on every wall. No matter how you choose to tile your bathroom, your selections are very modern, and it will be beautiful and clean no matter what!

I made the decision to only tile 1/2 my mirror wall with glass tile and regret it. I wish I had spent the extra $ and done the whole wall in the bathroom. If you are using a light color, it won't look heavy.

Thank you all. Attached is the bathroom layout. We definitely are going to use floor to ceiling tile in the shower area (with wavy accent tile on only one, longest wall) and above the vanity (also wavy). We are not sure about the 3rd wall.

I'd put the wavy tile on the wall behind the toilet, continuing across to where the shower starts.

Carolyn, would you use only plain tile in the shower itself?

In Italy the bathroom tile extends 3/4 up the wall. Always. And it looks great!

I'd love to see the waves in the shower itself, but got slightly scared off by comments above regarding
the difficulty of cleaning the waves. Why not put a piece of the tile in your current shower for a week or so and see what happens to it. If it's not a problem, then I'd GO for it!
