Adobe pdf

I'm hoping someone out there can help a tech challenged person (me). When I try to print a pattern which needs to be enlarged I put in the enlargement figure (example increase from 100% to 125%) and print. The printed pattern usually comes out at 100% instead of 125. There is a scale block at the bottom of the pattern and when I measure it, it comes out 3/4 inch instead of 1 inch. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? Many thanks, Lynn

I could be wrong but I think Adobe will only print as is and you will have to enlarge the pattern to your desired size on your copier. Maybe someone else knows more about Adobe. Good Luck.

Marty is correct, you must make the changes on the printer to adjust the size correctly.

    Lynn,
Can you elaborate a little -- when you say you "put in the enlargement figue" -- where exactly are you putting that number?

You mentioned adobe. I assume these patterns are PDF files? Or do you have a software program for patterns that you're using?

I don't believe you can enlarge it with Adobe.

If you put a picture in Word, PowerPoint, Excel even, you can enlarge it a specific percent, or to a specific size. If you have one of those software programs and want to know how to do that, I can tell you. But keep in mind that you are limited by the size of your paper unless you want to splice pieces of paper together. If you have access to a copy machine it's probably easier to print it and then go enlarge it.

Thanks for the info. I assumed that if adobe let me change the size to say 125%, it would print the pattern at 125%. You know what happens when you ASSUME. I'll have to see about getting a program that allows enlargement. I know less about my copier than I do about adobe..Lynn

If you have a book for your printer,it will take you thru enlargements step by step,at least mine does. I'm always enlarging cross stitch charts as they print them to small for these old eyes.

Are you using the Adobe Reader Zoom tool while you are viewing the PDF, then printing? That is, from the Adobe toolbar, choosing View > Zoom to... then entering 125 as the magnification setting in the little Zoom To popup?

Zoom only controls what the PDF looks like to you while you are viewing it, and doesn't affect printing -- although your assumptions about changing the magification and then printing at that magnification are flawlessly logical.

Adobe Reader, unfortunately, is not that logical.

Sometimes there is a bit of a trick to printing PDFs for patterns. Usually the PDF print dialog shows that the Page Scaling is set to something like "Fit to Margins". On the PDF I'm looking at right now, the Preview pane shows that the print zoom factor is 97%, which means my patterns won't be sized correctly. If you are having problems getting that 1-inch test box to actually print as 1 inch, try choosing "None" for Page Scaling.

Disclaimer: The sizing on that test box (and thus, the whole pattern) may differ from one PDF pattern to another, depending on what settings the author used when s/he created the PDF.

Still, try changing the Page Scaling if you are having problems getting patterns to print at 100%.
