I've already made fruitcake and it is wrapped and "laminating" (marinating LOL).

Beyond that, I will start cookies next week, once I get the Halloween stuff put away. The freezer will be pretty much full by Thanksgiving and I will be making "replacement" batches of things my DH and kids have gotten into in the meantime.

If I had the freezer space, I'd probably be starting immediately.

Usually I start about this time of year too but we will be spending Christmas in Austria so will skip the baking this year.

I start on Christmas morning, when I serve breakfast to my kids (or they serve it to me). Depending on how hot it is, I might just roast a chicken the day before, and serve it cold. I might prepare the fruit salad then, too.

My family doesn't like Christmas cake or pudding, and Christmas cookies are not a tradition here in Australia. It's high summer, and the least effort you can get away with, the better! For the last few years I used to make a Christmas cake for my partner/then ex, and made him one recently while he was ill, but now he's gone I doubt if I'll ever make one again. (He died just a few weeks ago.)

Our Christmas dinners are assorted salads and cold meats, and fruit salad and ice cream. Sometimes we lash out and get seafood.

Of course, when your family gathering consists of three people, anything's easy to prepare. We don't bother with decorations and that sort of thing, but an exchange of gifts is essential.

You could move here too. It's the hottest time of the year but it doesn't stop me from baking when I get the urge!

I start making my cookie dough and quick breads the first week of November and putting them in the freezer. Then I start making candies the first day of December. I try to have everything baked and packaged by the 2nd week of December. I started my christmas shopping early this year so I will have more time for baking!
