Are you sure you want a black headboard? White looks to be the primary color, black the secondary, but with a black headboard, won't it be too much black? I was just wondering because I have the same situation with another color.

Eileen, do you need a headboard right now? Do you have that many people visiting all the time? I think you should wait until you find the one that really fits the space, at the price that works for your situation. You already have created a very nice space, and the absence of the headboard isn't really a big issue as far as looks.

One thing that might be workable as a temporary measure would be to buy a lattice fencing panel and paint it black, then use that for a headboard. I think it would give the airy look that you need, rather than the heavy look of the solid black ones you have shown. Or, you could even paint it with metallic chrome paint to work with the lighting, etc.

Also, would you consider changing out the black euroshams for something in a black and cream or white print or toile? I think it would be a nice link between all the solids in the room.

I think it needs a headboard and I would choose the one from Target. Without a headboard it looks just like it is...unfinished. We tried to go without a headboard in our rental house and that didn't last long. It was extremely uncomfortable and ours was in front of a window just like yours. We quickly got something temporary off of craigslist.

Just something to think about regardless of which way you go. The CL hb is beautiful but I *think* it's part of a complete bed.
If that's the case you would have to shove the hb against the wall without attaching to your frame or find adapter plates with hooks that will bolt to your frame then hook into the headboard.

Pretty room! I like it the way it is too! The CL headboard is too chunky and is not proportional to the rest of your furniture, and will be like a black block in front of that window.

Thank you!!! I agree now that for this room that Craigslist headboard is very massive. It is also from a place not close to my house and how would I get that home? It looks too big for my car. I like the Target one but that purchase will have to be delayed. So meanwhile I will enjoy the room as is. After all, I have had much of this bedding for over a year now, just waiting for a bed.

I will start a conversation on the other side asking a question. My landlord has informed me that she will be putting the house on the market. She has been doing this every year to every tenant from what I understand. She had it listed on craigslist when I found it and there was a for sale by owner sign in front of the house. Now I have to live with a sign in front of my house for another 9 months until my lease is up? She will have trouble selling this house. The main roof leaks and many of the outlets do not work; there is no central air. A friend of mine told me that Arizonia passed a new law that homes cannot be sold "as is" - they have to be liveable, pass inspection, etc. I have to look into this. Anybody live as a renter in a house for sale?

Well, if the house has to meet certain standards, she will have to take care of that, but I am guessing that your lease allows her to do that with reasonable notice to you, as well as to post signage.

Honestly, I am not sure I see what the problem is with a for sale sign in the yard, unless you are concerned about people stopping by.

I have one piece of advice about living in a rental that's for sale - I did this once. My landlord at the time was a little flaky, but he told us that he would never send realtors/potential buyers over without giving us advance notice. Lo and behold, people started showing up unannounced to see the place. That gets really annoying really fast. Long story short, I finally figured out that if I locked the screen door from the inside, and went out through the garage, I had control over when people could get in. The landlord called me about it ONCE, and I kindly reminded him of the advance warning I was promised, and that I would be glad to unlock it/leave it unlocked when I knew someone was coming. So, my advice is to try to maintain some control over, or at least knowledge of, when people are coming and going. It is your home, and I think it's easy for the selling landlord to lose sight of that and just try to parade as many people through as possible. If that happens though, you'll feel constantly invaded, not much like you're in your home, and it will likely drive you nuts! Just my two cents, but hope it's helpful!

As for the bed, yes, it's too massive and with it, the room will lack variety. A tufted fabric headboard would be lovely but I've already suggested that idea before.

Great idea! I made a headboard for my daughter with Toile and it cost around $100 for all materials.

We lived in a rental house while it was for sale, but the owner was very good about calling when she had clients. The For Sale sign didn't bother us. The house was shown about 3 times while we were there, and it sold. We had to be out by a certain time, but it worked out that our new house was ready in time.

Were you planning on only being in this house for a year? Seems like you have improved the appeal of the house, and it might sale because of your improvements. ;)

if you might have to move again, I wouldn't do anything that costs money until you know what's going to happen.
It's not that big a deal in the overall scheme anyway and ALL of your guests will understand why you don't have a headboard.

As was mentioned on the conversations side, tenants rights don't allow for "drop in" showings. In Arizona, tenants must be given 48 hours notice of showings.

I like the style of the CL headboard a lot, but I, too, am concerned about scale.

One other thing you might want to consider is extending the drapery rod to be longer, then putting up opaque drapes that you push back to just inside the window frame. That will make your window, and your bed area, look much bigger.
