Strange, San, considering that things usually are more expensive in New England.

Fennel was very expensive here all summer. I mean like between 4 & 5 bucks, for tiny bulbs. Then it dropped to two-something; still expensive but doable. And the bulbs were normal sized. Yesterday it was back up there close to four dollars, for mini-bulbs.

I'm gonna just have to open a fennel bed this year, and not worry about buying it in future. Seed is cheap enough.

On my trip to the farmers' market this morning in eastern PA, fennel (this booth calls it anise) was $1.39 for nice sized bulbs. I'm not sure what the price would be in a grocery store in our area.
