RECIPE: colonial brown read

This is a brown bread recipe that I really like. I hope you'll enjoy it too.

Colonial Brown Bread

4 cups buttermilk

4 cups whole wheat flour

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup packed brown sugar

4 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1. Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Grease 9x5 inch (23x13 cm) loaf pan.

2. In a large bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Pour in buttermilk and stir until all of the dry mixture has been absorbed. Pour the batter into the loaf pan.

3. Bake for 1 hour in the oven, or until a knife inserted into the crown of the loaf comes out clean.

4. Serve warm. Store leftover wrapped in palstic warp in the refrigerator. This reheats well.
