RECIPE: cake where pudding rises to the top

Does any one have this recipe? I use to make it when family was young. I recently realized that my son in law also likes this cake and I cannot find a recipe for it. He calls it "pudding cake" but it is not as I did a search on that one.

Sure would appreciate all our help!

This one makes the fudge on the bottom but as you spoon it out, it will be on top. Hope this is what you are talking about:
This is the recipe I have used for years-
    Hot Fudge Pudding Cake
    1c flour
    3/4c sugar
    1/2 c nuts (opt)
    2T unsweetened cocoa
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2c milk
    2T melted margarine or butter
    1 tsp vanilla
    3/4c brown sugar, packed
    1/4 c unsweetened cocoa
    1 3/4c hot water
Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, combine first 9 ingredients. Mix at medium speed until well blended. Pour and spread into a 9" ungreased 8 or 9" square pan. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, 1/4c cocoa, and hot water. Pour over batter but do NOT mix into batter. Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until cake is set. Pudding will be in bottom of the baking dish. Serve warm or cool with whipped cream or whipped topping.

jleek, we just had a thread on this and there were several recipes, including the one from my 1969 Betty Crocker cookbook. It was a favorite dessert when I was a kid, served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Here's the thread, and enjoy the cake.

thank you both for your help.

Annie I certainly picked up a few more recipes for the cake that I will be anxious to try. Think I used the lemon years ago, but doesn't that rhubarb look good!!!

Yes, there were more kinds of pudding cake than I ever imagined. The rhubarb one looked especially good, along with the gingerbread. So many recipes, so little time...

This recipe I got out of our local newspaper recipe request column a few years ago--very handy recipe as it uses only ingredients most people have in their "pantries"-I've added sliced apples on occasion-as a bottom layer--but I like it best without the apples-just a plain tasty dessert ( also makes a great breakfast LOL ).

    CINNAMON PUDDING CAKE

    1 3/4 c. brown sugar
    1 ½ c. cold water
    2 Tbsp. Butter 1 c. milk
    1 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. Butter
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. Baking powder
    ½ tsp. Salt
    2 ½ tsp. Cinnamon
    ½ c. chopped walnuts ( optional )

Preheat oven to 350° Combine brown sugar, water & 2 Tbsp butter in small saucepan, bring to a boil, remove from heat & set aside. Cream together 2 Tbsp. Butter and sugar, add milk, then add flour, baking powder, salt & cinnamon.Spread in ungreased 9 x 9 x 2 in. Pan or oven proof dish. Pour reserved brown sugar syrup over batter-sprinkle with nuts. Bake 35-40 min.
