Very interesting, Bumblebeez. I never liked to eat those little hard balls, I'd spit them out as a child, but anyway they sure look beautiful. Who knew?

When I first heard about this in California years ago, I stocked up. Because companies will not ship to CA. And when I travel out of state I go looking for them, I even bought some on my recent trip to Italy. I love to use them for my cake's and cookies. The lawsuit was silly to me, I mean really how many does the average person eat in a lifetime?

Every day I'm reminded that I've lived too long. I remember those "silver balls" from my childhood. Is nothing sacred?!

Good Grief! I get so tired of this kind of frivolous stuff taking up court time that could be better used to prosecute real criminals!

How the heck many would you have to eat for it to become an issue? And why target these when there are so many real health risks out there?

Silver is not that toxic: in no way comparable to mercury. If it were, no one could safely wear silver jewelry: a tiny amount can be absorbed into the skin. I just received my degree in metalwork/jewelry, and we studied this issue. Silver IS present in very small amounts in the body naturally, as are several other metals.

My local bulk store has a huge selection of confections but has not stocked Dragees in probably 10 years or so. I do have some gold dragees that I bought years ago, but use them sparingly. We had a local candy maker that used to make the best red hots and they did not melt when I used them on my Christmas Cookies and they were the nicest red color too. Have not been able to find a good red hot in years either.

Reminds me of some TV show where the characters time-traveled. They ended up at some future fast food restaurant where they had to sign a waiver to buy french fries. The future restaurants didn't want to be sued for contributing to someone's poor health. I laughed when I saw that episode years ago. I'm not laughing anymore.

In Canada just yesterday I saw gold ones at the Bulk Barn.

you can sue anyone over anything - but I find it strange that he could sue - get them to stop selling them - without having to disclose how much HE got? What is wrong with that? if it is a health risk who got the settlement??
