VERY basic instructions needed....

Help a newbie please! I've looked all over the internet and believe it or not, I cannot find the most basic of instructions for putting together a very simple quilt.

What I want to make is a VERY basic patchwork quilt using 9-square blocks of all the same size using different patterns and colors for a vintage look, I would sew binding around the edges to finish it off. I don't know if I would machine quilt or just tie it off with yarn yet - that's my next question. I have never machine quilted and I intend on buying a machine in the $150-$200 range. Any suggestions on models I should look at?

Can anyone get me started with some basic guidelines and instructions? Once I know the size strips to cut and then the squares, I think I'll be good to go. I want to start selecting my fabrics and getting them all cut and ready to sew together.

THANKS!!!!!!!!
