Saw the porcelain calacutta slab

While at arizona tile in sun valley I saw the new porcelain calacatta slab. They have a counter done with it and it is jaw dropping gorgeous. I had seen it another tle store recently and it was in the honed finish with the calacatta that has the greenish tinge. It was ok but I wasn't crazy about it. It also had a huge crack in it. The one at arizona tile is in the gray and white and is stunning. I would get it in a heartbeat but it is so new that I am hesitant about it as I'm sure installers are familiar with it yet either. The material is not very thick and the whole thing probably hinges on proper installation.

Does anyone know other porcelain slab available in or near NYC. So far, I've seen MSI's porcelain slabs and Neolith.

What's the difference between the Calacutta Porcelain and the Calacutta Quartzite? It looks very similar to me.

The sentence structure in my last post was horrible. I meant to say that since the product is so new, most installers have not worked with it. I just spoke with the installer that put the counter in at arizona tile and he said it is all about proper installation and that he has stood on that countertop and thinks the material is sturdy if installed properly. I'm thinking that would be a perfect solution for my backsplash.

The slabs come in 120x60 and are $1600 a slab.

I need to make a correction. The slab I saw that was honed with the greenish color was calacatta. The slab on the picture is statuary or whatever it's called.

Wow, that is gorgeous!

The CMKBD that we've hired to help us with our remodel recommended large format porcelain tiles to us because of their durability and high tolerance to heat (we've had a porcelain tiled island for nearly 20 years and I know it's going to be difficult to train the family to start using trivets).

Another plus, IMO, is that undermount sinks aren't so far below the counter as they are with granite or quartz counters. I'd rather reach in only 9-3/4" to 10" to the bottom of the Silgranite sink I've selected than nearly 11". The former will be very close to the reach for my current sink and I know that hasn't been an issue for my back.

my countertop research led me to Oregon Tile but I live on the East coast. Anyone know of a closer fabricator? I'm in Pittsburgh!

I too am neat Pittsburgh & have been looking for thin slab porcelain. MontGranite on Steubenville Pike shows it on their website. Going tomorrow to check it out.
