Lighting for Tray Ceiling

Hi, I haven't posted for a while, but I drop by occasionally and see what's up. I always enjoy seeing and reading about everyone's current projects.

I am in the middle of installing a drywall ceiling in my basement. Previously we had a suspended ceiling and it was cheap and looked like h_ _ L.

Anyway I'm framing this out and was able to raise the ceiling in the center of the room. There will be a sofffit on two sides to accomodate the normal stuff in the ceiling like HVAC, water, gas, electrical, etc.

Back to the raised center section.... This will be over the main sitting/TV watching area. I plan to trim out the top of the tray ceiling with molding to add some drama to an otherwise dull space. I would like to add hidden rope lighting behind the crown molding. Recessed cans would be in the lower soffit areas of the ceiling. So here's my question.... The raised ceiling portion is about 8.5 X 14. Do you think I should add can lights in this section also, in addition to the cans on the soffits, or will the rope light provide enough ambient light?
