Jenn Air slide in range - countertop depth?

Hi,

Does anyone have a Jenn Air slide in range? If so, how deep is your countertop, including the edge? My fabricator mentioned he makes the countertops 25 1/2 - 26" deep.

The way I understand the specs, the counter top should be 25" deep. I don't want the black sides (less door) of the range showing past my cabinets which are 24". If the countertop is 26" deep, I don't think you would be able to push the range back enough, so the black sides don't show past the cabinets below the countertop.

How deep are your countertops?

Also, if you have a CD FD refrigerator, do the doors hit the edge of the countertop?

Thanks Gail

I just installed a jenn air slide in range in my new kitchen. The countertop is 26 inches deep exactly. The range does not go all the way to the back of the countertop. There is a 2.75 inch deep portion of countertop behind the range. At the front of the countertop, the range fits very nicely, and the countertop fits snug against these little 'stops' on the sides of the range. It hides the sides just fine. I'll try to remember to post pics tomorrow for you.

Thanks for the reply. I would love to see pictures. I'm just concerned about the black sides of the range showing beyond the cabinets with the the deeper countertop.

If you have full overlay doors or frameless cabinets, then 25 1/2" is what we normally do as well.

If your cabinets are partial overlay, then 25" up to 25 1/2" is used.

If they are inset, then 25" is what we do....anything more doesn't look as good.

My tops are 25 1/2 deep and my slide in JennAir looks fine.

ok, here is a link to photos. Honestly, I think you will be fine with whichever countertop depth you have, because you simply adjust the depth of countertop behind the range according to the appliance specs. So if the range needs 23.25 inches of countertop in order to sit flush on the front and hide the black sides, then you just subtract that amount from your countertop depth to decide how much countertop to leave behind the range.

Also, I have a CD fridge (sxs) and the doors do not hit my 26 inch countertop. I do have a buffer zone around the fridge with about 1 inch thick panels and air space, so that might help.

    alaskangirl,

Thanks for your photos. What I didn't want to show is the extra 1" or so of the black sides of the range showing on the sides of the bottom cabinets.

I understand that you can just adjust depth of the range to your countertop, but that means the whole range is moved forward about 1" or more past the cabinets and that amount of the black sides will show past the bottom cabinets. I hope you understand what I mean.

I am also having a 25" deep panel on each side of the refrigerator, so I should be OK.

kompy Would it look alright if I just had him do the countertop 25"? I'm having full overlay doors.

    Thanks

Ok, I understand what you mean about not having the black sides show. Here's the deal with the range. On the front of the range, at the top where it meets the countertop, the range actually measures 30.75 inches from side to side. This is the same width as the glass top. The rest of the range below this top portion is just 30 inches, so it doesn't interfere with my full-overlay drawers on each side. If you want the black sides not to show as mine do, you will need to leave 30.75+ inches cutout width to allow for the top of the range to fit further back between your countertops. What this will mean is that the glass top of the range will barely (or not) cover the edges of your countertop. Also, it will leave a little (1/3 inch) gap between the range and the cabinets on each side (filler??)If you only leave 30 inches cutout width your range will sit exactly as I have in my pics. Honestly, I don't notice the sides at all.... Good Luck!

I have a good inch of black showing on my KitchenAid slide in gas range, but it would have been a bit less if the gas pipe wasn't preventing the range from being pushed fully back (as far as the notches in the side allows).

I too can say that I don't notice the black on the sides - mainly because the little finger and handprints covering the entire front distract from the sides :0)

Hi there..how high are your counter tops from the floor, I am thinking of getting the slide in electric range but my cutout is only 30.25" and the range says it is 30.75" wide. My dealer said that that just the glass at the top that will sit on the counter top. My question is that if the range is 36"High and my counter height measures 36 ⅜", won't I have a problem fitting it?

Thanks for your help. Electric range specs

If you click "Dimensions" off to the right on the page you linked, you'll get a PDF data sheet that lists the cutout dimensions:

    A. 13" (33.0 cm) upper cabinet depth

    B. 30" (76.2 cm) min. opening width

    C. For minimum clearance to the top of the cooktop, see NOTE.

    D. 23 " (59.1 cm) opening depth

    E. 30" (76.2 cm) min. opening width

    F. Junction box - 5.5" (14.0 cm) min. from either cabinet, 10" (25.4 cm) max. from floor. Outlet must be flush. Nothing located in shaded area can extend more than 2" (5.1 cm) from wall or range will not slide all the way back.

    G. Cabinet door or hinge should not extend into cutout.

    H. 18" (45.7 cm)

    I. 3" (7.6 cm) min. clearance from both sides of the range to the side wall or other combustible material.

NOTE: 24" (61.0 cm) minimum when bottom of wood or metal cabinet is covered by not less than 1⁄4" (0.64 cm) flame retardant millboard covered with not less than No. 28 MSG sheet steel, 0.015" (0.4 mm) stainless steel, 0.024" (0.6 mm) aluminum or 0.020" (0.5 mm) copper. 30" (76.2 cm) minimum clearance between the top of the cooking platform and the bottom of an uncovered wood or metal cabinet.

Thank you! This helps but I still don't know if it will clear the height of the counter which measures 36 ⅜ from the floor. If I measure the "G" line from bottom of cabinet to top of stove, I get 32 ⅛. It says minimum clearance is 30". Do you think I'd be all right? Thank you again.

Industry standard countertop height is 36". You have nothing weird or unique, you're fine. G has nothing to do with height, it is just pointing out that nothing can be blocking the cutout. The 30" clearance is from the cooktop to a bare cabinet above, for safety reasons.

What will this range be replacing? If you already had a slide in with a strip of countertop behind, you should be good to go. However if you had a freestanding range, there will be a gap behind the new JennAir once it's installed. You'll want a trim piece to cover it up, both for aesthetic reasons and so food can't fall back there
