How do you use 2 sinks?

Help with question about 2 sinks: how do you use them?

This question started with someone's statement about how he/she had a prep sink and was glad to know that there hadnÂt been anything raw (like meat) or dirty in there, so he/she can easily wash/prepare the food.

I havenÂt lived in a house with more than one kitchen sink. So how does one use each one differently?

I thought it was more about location that dictates how you use a sink.

Example: if the main sink is far away from the range, then putting another sink near the range (like on the island) would be good for things such as draining pasta, or getting water to add to the pot/soup, etc.

But would you prohibit certain things from going into certain sinks?

I am trying to decide whether I should plan for 2 sinks or not.

We love 2 sinks now that our new house came with one. We have a double and a prep sink in the island. At our house we typically use the double for dishes and kitchen clean-up and the island for prep. During the holidays both sinks get used for everything. So nice having a second one with a crowd over. Our old prep sink was at the end of our island our new one will be in a little from the end so hubby and I can both prep at the same time without getting in each others way. HTH

We are putting 2 sinks in our new kitchen. Right now the space has 2 sinks. 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the former mud/ laundry room as a utility sink. What we are doing is merging the 2 rooms together to enlarge the kitchen. We are using the 1 sink (stainless double bowl) as the main kitchen sink. The other sink (farm sink) on the other side of the room will serve as a more of a utility or pantry sink or if we need to we can use it as a secondary prep area or for washing large pots.

I tend to use mine just the same as kitchenchaos, though they are directly across from each other (one on the island and one on the countertop). I love the big double sink in the countertop, because I can drain handwashed dishes on one side.
