Hmmmmm...I'm not sure why you would need them. Maybe if you don't have full extension...but I'd rather put the cost of the lights to the full extension option!

I don't see much, if any, use for them in a kitchen but they would be nice in bedside tables, chairside tables in home theatre rooms... Actually, I could use them in the back bar that is in the basement, but would need to rig them up on doors.

I agree with the comments above. Seems kind of superfluous for a well-lit kitchen, and good lighting was a high priority for me. As ci says, it might come in handy for a room that is dark, such as the bedroom.

I would use these under the kitchen sink. It always seems like a blackhole down there.
