My dining room / kitchen progress

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I have posted pics of my home. Hubby and I both suffered some serious burnout, so we took a break from the DIYing for a while.

Now we're back at it and I figured I would share pics of our dining room so far and our kitchen so far. I also posted pics of our kitchen on the kitchen forum.

Many people here tried to talk me out of the new chandelier in the dining room... but I went with my gut and I am glad I did. I don't even know how you would define the style of the chandy, but I feel like it works in the space.

I also bought and hung the Ballard mirror that someone here had suggested for the room. It works perfectly! It is especially stunning at night when I set the chandy really dim because the mirror reflects back all the crystals a hundred times over, like a kaleidoscope.

I still need to put up my gallery wall in the dining room to bring in some color and interest on the other wall. I also want to paint the inside of the corner cabs and add some colorful accessories. In due time I guess :)

The kitchen isn't done, but it's functional. I still need to install new baseboards, new flooring, a new fan, some lighting over the stove and buy a smaller island. And bring in more COLOR!!!

    OMG!!

    Just a wonderful transformation!! :)

My only suggestion would be to pop the cork on a bottle of champagne and toast each other for all of your hard work has certainly paid off in creating a gorgeous home!

    Very well done indeed!

What's important is that it feels right to you. I've always loved the monochromatic feel of the room, so I'd probably use some sepia prints on the wall and be done, but I know that look is not for everyone. I think the new chandy and mirror are perfect!

What a marvelous job! I love the chandelier. too, and the dark dining room furniture and rug and the paint and...everything! I would definitely paint the inside of your corner cupboards when you are in the mood. The kitchen looks terrific. I hope lukkiirish sees it and shows it to her DH ;)

I agree with teacats-champagne for you both!

Lovely transformation! Can you share details on your dining room rug (where you got it, what colors are in it, etc)?

All kidding aside, I love it, you did a fabulous job! We had that cookie jar growing up. Very special!!!

    Lukkiirish-

that was my Gram's cookie jar. It was the only thing I wanted from her house when she passed away. So many good memories associated with that cookie jar... it's the one thing I'd grab (besides the pets) if there was ever a fire.

What is with that yellow? When we moved in the lady painted a bunch of rooms that really bright dark yellow lol We changed ours too.
I saw your kitchen this morning, everything looks great!

you did a great job !

May I ask the size of your dining room? What size is your table and what brand/group the set is?
I am looking at the Arhaus group Lustiano and it looks similar color and size wise. I haven't ordered it yet as I am worried it will be too large for my space.

    Thnks

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone.

Teacats- Thanks! Hubby and I aren't big champagne drinkers, but we've been spending a lot of time outside with BBQ food and a cold beer, so that counts, right? :)

Mrose- I agree... monochromatic would be my first choice. However, hubby really wants color (when we started doing work on the house, he insisted we don't be a "beige house family") and I am trying to find a happy medium, lol. I like color but I don't know how to introduce it. I actually found a painting that I LOVE at Ballards, but it's too much money for us to spend right now. http://www.ballarddesigns.com/sunrise-on-the-reeds-giclee/paintings-prints/contemporary-prints/204037

    Roarah - Thank you!!

Cyn- Thank you! It was a challenge convincing hubby to paint the cabs at first. And the first time we did it, it was a disaster! I actually had to strip them all down and start fromt scratch. They are not perfect... but they look soooo much better than the first time. And the finish has been incredibly durable. I am definitely a fan of INSL-X cabinet coat after seeing how it wears.

Prickly- Surprisingly the rug came from HD. It wasn't very expensive (about $100) and while I think it's a lovely rug... you can tell it's not the greatest quality. I am having such a hard time with it "rolling" and the little bumps make it hard to vaccuum. But it looks nice! :) It has chocolate brown, charcoal gray, cream, and a rust red in it.

Lukki- Will your DH not let you paint your cabs? Mine was very hesitant and when I hated them the first time around... he was NOT happy. However, now I love them, and he doesn't really feel one way or another about them, haha. As long as he doesn't dislike them... I am happy :)

gmnolen- thanks! The dining room is BM's hot spring stones. It reads a gray beige at night and almost light purple in the morning. A very interesting and complex color... but I really like it. Didn't like it in the beginning because of the purple cast, but I like it now!

Kadydid- I don't know, but that yellow was glaring!!! It was the first thing we painted because I just couldn't deal with it, lol. When I would come down the stairs half asleep and walk into the room with the sun shining in, I felt like I was being assaulted! Haha, when my Dad came to visit and see the house for the first time, his reaction was "Wow, this is a nice little house. But man... that is YELLOW!!!"

    regina - Thank you!

Loribee- Thanks! I really do love the mirror. I was originally going to silver leaf the rim to get rid of the coppery color... but now I think I am going to keep it. Mixing metals and finishes adds dimension, right?

Jeannie- our DR is 11'5" x 12'7". The table is 40"W x 62"D x 30"H. The set is from Macy's (got it on sale on Black Friday) and the name of it is "The Bradford Collection". It was a splurge for us, but I have always wanted/needed a dining room (family never sat around the table for dinner as a kid and I always wanted that for my own family) and when I found that set, I was in love. Good luck! :)

I'm jealous! I so want that kitchen. Any plans for treatments over the sink window? I was thinking some natural shades in a medium to darker brown. Somthing to compliment the paint color. It would add some great texture to the room. Bali Binds has some great choices.
