source for floaty fabrics?

I love lightweight fabrics with a fine, supple hand, especially thin rayons and cottons and that nice crinkled rayon, but can never find them in fabric stores. Does anyone have a good source for these?

eBay!?

I've never gotten any fabric through eBay, but have read about many who have. Most have been pretty satisfied. If you are familiar with the type of fabric, and you don't mind if the color is just a wee different from the way it's portrayed on your computer screen, it may be a good way to go.

I'm personally an "I've got to feel the hand of the fabric first" type person, so eBay isn't for me. But YMMV.

There are many vendors on eBay that sell only fabric and sewing items. Some use an online auction color chart that helps compare colors to what you have/need.
Also if you do a general online search for 'fabric stores', many will come up that specialize in 'fine' fabrics.

Hi everyone,
There are some great fabrics to be had on Ebay...I work in Home Decor..and since I'm an ebay seller of fine Home Decor fabrics, I felt that I could tell you that there are a lot of great buys on Ebay....personally, I have fabrics tha retail from $250.00 - $1,300.00/yard in my Ebay store - going at bargain prices...many of the other sellers who sell fine fabrics for Home Decor are the same....
I agree that you can't touch and feel but you sure can fine some great wonders on Ebay for that special project, pillows, Crazy quilts, drapes....
Of course, at the same time, when you shop on Ebay, I find taht it is a good thing to always confirm with the seller what the postage is going to be before buying because some sellers have hidden handling charges and high shipping costs..and you don't want that....

Hi, At the bottom is a link for San Francisco fabric stores.

There's a garment district in San Fran that must have a fabric salvage area. Here in Los Angeles, there's a large fabric and sewing salvage area at one end of the garment district. Here's a link for the SF garment district. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1216/is_n3_v186/ai_10404078

A lot of Los Angeles swap meets have oceans of sewing salvage, fabric, trims, zippers, buttons, etc., and it's all very cheap. I took these photos of the LA garment district and some of the swap meet fabric dealers.
