I've never watched "The Gilded Age" - I remember reading that it didn't compare to "Downton Abbey." However, I love the clothes/houses of that time period. I've also heard that Seasons 2-3 are much better than Season 1.

Are you re-watching it for the actual storyline of the show - or for the clothing/overall set design?

AI drew the black leaves on the top dress with no regard for the fabric folds. You can do that with embroidery or applique, but why would you? Why have the pleats and draping if you're going to hide them with the leaves? In the second one, the lace at the neckline is just put over the neckline, but in reality, that lace has to be doing significant work to keep the satin up, so it needs to be sewn pretty firmly --- a seam that's just not visible.

In both cases, they look good but are actually poor designs.

@dani_m08 I'm rewatching it just for the fun of it, in anticipation of Season 4. I love it, and I think anyone who loved Downton Abbey would find it very similar, except that it takes place in America. The clothing and sets are spectacular. But the best part is the character of Agnes Van Rhijn, played by Christine Baranski. Her lines are akin to those of the Dowager (Maggie Smith) in DA, and it's worth the watch just to see her perform!

@dani_m08 - Gilded Age does not have the addictive quality of Downton. It is for sure a soap opera, just not one that puts you on the edge of your seat. I don't feel as drawn to the characters. But, I appreciate seeing a period piece set in the US, and I appreciate seeing the story of middle and upper middle class black Americans alongside white Americans. It's just not a segment of history I have seen much on TV.

I concur that Christine Baranski is fabulous. It took me a whole season to unsee Cynthia Nixon as Miranda. I can't decide if I find her super irritating or the character super irritating.

I have been hesitant to use an AI and am even more so now. I've posed the same question quite a few times and have gotten differening answers. I think I may stick to more conventional sources for information.

Like all technology, AI is a double-edged sword. It can be tremendously helpful and also very dangerous.

That being said, it is also very frequently incorrect in its responses. So you need to use your critical reasoning and your own knowledge to filter what it says and make it your own.

Keep in mind that AI uses all those "conventional sources" to come up with its answers, so it's relying on the very information that you are, except it comes up with it with lightning speed and comprehensiveness.
