Teflon fabric for covering ironing boards would work. I make casserole covers with it and it sews very well. It runs about $6 a yard.

available at your quilt store or from Nancy's Notions online.

What about the silver stuff that goes inside oven mitts and potholders? I bought it here in Canada for about 2.99 a meter so is probably cheaper stateside.

Mary

that is the same fabric. I just checked Nancysnotions and it is $5.48/yard and comes 45" wide.

Go to a sporting goods store (or even WalMart) and get some of those "survival blankets" - you can get them as cheap as a dollar a piece some places.

Thanks red_confetti, I like that idea. I'd hate to spend a fortune on fabric for something that will only be worn one time probably. But I appreciate the other ideas, I would never have thought of the teflon fabric. I didn't even know they sold it by the yard anyway.

Thanks to all,
KathieO

If you use the 'survival blankets', it doesn't breath. You'll have to figure a way to keep comfortable.

What about Silver lame?

I wonder if you used the survival blankets if you could put "air holes" in them with silver grommets, just a thought.
