finally finished

I just posted this in the gallery forum and thought I'ld put it over here also. I put some pics up last august but that was before the countertop, backsplash, and the stainless behind the stove. We did most the work ourselves which could be why it took so long. I got so many ideas lurking on this site that it turned out totally different than we first envisioned.

Maple cabinets, mission style w/ginger finish

Ginormous Copper sink bought from mexicopper.com off of ebay

Cement countertop we did ourselves

appliances are all Kenmore elite from Sears

Floors and backsplash are porcelain tiles

Pendent lights were from Lowes

Main lights were from Home Depot

I LOVE your countertops! The large tile backsplash and the floors are great, too. Nice job all around.

Whoa! You did a fantastic job on your countertops. I've read enough to know they are not easy. (Your friends may want to hire you! LOL) Great kitchen; enjoy it. Thanks for sharing

How well put together everything is. I love that copper sink. DIY is always the toughest, especially if those two cute kids are yours. Enjoy.

Nice job and a great look! Great backsplash--I love the large format tiles!

And the ceiling? Details? Is that a drywall texture on the ceiling? DIY or was it existing?

The kids surely made it interesting as it was an entire house remodel. The ceiling is drywall texture, it's a "fan pattern" I guess is what they called it. Drywall was the one thing we hired out. They were able to do in two weeks what would have taken me two months.

Wow! I am loving those countertops!

Great job! We seriously contemplated concrete countertops, but we couldn't find anyone around here to do them. Yours are gorgeous!

Beautiful! I really like the little guy in the diaper!

Very impressed that you did those countertops yourselves.

I love the concrete countertops with your "ginormous" copper sink!

May I archive your kitchen in the Finished Kitchens Blog? If so please submit the Category Checklist below. Thanks!

Very nice! I was going to congratulate you on picking out such a nice soapstone countertop 'til I realized that it's not just good taste, it's also a LOT of hard work on your part to get it so pretty! Good luck!

Well, I was feeling all sorry for myself today. I am praying Habitate for Humanity will take my old appliances and cabs as I have no room for anything in my garage. My house is torn up and a mess. I have drywall dust everywhere.

I looked at the pictures of your kitchen and it brought the first smile to my face for the day! What a pretty kitchen. You did a great job with your choices and materials. You have to be amazing to be able to live through it, do it yourself, make the great choices you made and have little (adorable) ones to boot! Congrats. I love your kitchen!

    Beautiful!
My favorite part is the adorable diapered bum! No kitchen is complete without little ones underfoot. When mine grow up, I will have to rent more.

Looks great! I love all the different finishes that you incorporated. The concrete counters are fabulous. Great job!

I love the clean lines of your kitchen! Contemporary but still warm. My new cabinets will be about the same stain color I think. You did a great job!

Wow - you rock! I even bought the book by Cheng but decided we just didn't have the know how. The countertops and everything else look great!!!

I'm so impressed that you did the countertops yourselves!! They're great! Especially impressive with the little guy running around.

Wow, that's impressive! Congratulations on a very well done kitchen. Love your choices.

Darn nice counters - amazing work.

I can't believe you did those counters yourself. Everything fits together so nicely. Awesome!

Thanks for all the positive feedback it reallly is nice. The hardest part of the countertops was just taking the plunge and attempting to do it. We almost backed out of trying a couple of different times. But we had told so many people that we were doing it and they would look at us like we were nuts and naysayed it the whole time!!! It really iritated me, but now I was going to get it done no matter what or I was going to have a whole lot of black stepping stones in my yard! I guess you could say stubborn pride got the countertops done and usually it just gets me into trouble. But for the most part we just followed Chengs book and someone on the bathroom forum who had some good info.

the counters look great. i would love to see them in a couple years after they've picked up some nice patina.

    excellent job.

Beautiful kitchen! I can't believe you DIY'd! Enjoy!

Wow, impressive even if those amazing counters were not DIY. Would those backsplash tiles be Ironworks by Artistic Tile? If not, can you tell us what they are?

They're 12x12 porcelein tile but I don't recall the brand. Their color is copper. But if you're really want to know I can go back to the tile place and get the info. The smaller cream tiles we found at lowes and I never checked the brand on those.

All the metallic tones in your kitchen are really cool! Wish I was you right now as mine won't be done for another month and I'm a month in and really OVER IT! When I see a stunning finished product like your kitchen though, I know it will be worth the wait.
