That looks like honed absolute black granite.

Thanks so much for your reply. From what I've read, honed black granite is hard to maintain so I think I'll pass - but it's beautiful!

That looks exactly like soapstone. : )

Love how it looks but black granite is terrible to maintain...I have it in my kitchen and it's a total dust/crumb enhancer. And to make matters worse, any kind of glass leaves rings & water marks. If I don't clean it the right way it looks streaky. Don't do it!!

For easy maintenance countertops I would go with ThinkGlass Glass Countertops (www.thinkglass.com)... The hand made texture a the bottom helps to hide stain and fingerprints. The glass itself doesn't need any sealant or special care : use soapy water. You could leave ink, oil or beet juice on it for a week and your countertops will be like new after a quick wash.

Flamed or satin Absolute does not have the maintenance/finger print issue that honed Absolute does.

what is 'flamed or satin absolute? Is it the same as 'leathered'?
