Black kitchen cabinets?

Does anyone have photos (or links to photos) that show black kitchen cabinets? I know that I've seen them in design magazines, but can't find any online. We are seriously considering black stained cherry cabinets for our kitchen and would love to see some photos. Thanks.

There is someone on this board who has just put them in with white marble. It looks awesome. Hopefully someone remembers the name or that person will chime in. You could do a search. I think she had a thread about her white marble...

I too am considering black cabinets. It was mindimoo's kitchen that has black cabs with marble. If you do a search on her name you will see the post. Also, I am including a link to the finished kitchens blog. You can search on all sorts of categories. Here are all the black cabinet kitchens that are in there.

Hi there! FYI Ours are ebony stain on maple, but they almost look like a satin paint. The finish is fairly matte which I think will hide boo-boos better. Love em!

Here is a link to Gwyneth Paltrow's Kitchen. She used black cabinets and it looks great. I am currently installing Dark (not black but very dark) cabinets with white marble. I love contrast

Absolutely love that Gwyneth Paltrow kitchen!!! Where did you find it? The black cabs I'm considering are a very opaque stain as well. Hopefully it will hold up better than paint.

Check out Norcraft's Carbon finish on cherry. This cabinet looks awesome! It is a black stain with the lines in the cherry wood. Good luck with you project!

One wall of my cabinets is finished with a greenish black milk paint, which is more like stain than paint.

I am getting a black sink cab. I don't have room for an island, but if I did, it would be black. Wasn't courageous enough to do all my cabs in black, although I think it would have been pretty. I have a very small kitchen, however.

I went with an espresso stain on maple. Cheaper than paint and I didn't want the distressed country look as I was trying to get away from it. I don't have the cabs installed yet, but they arrive from Canada on Monday!

I ordered Columbia cabinets. They are very nice.

Our island cabinets are black - painted maple - Woodharbor custom line.

The flash makes the finish look a bit odd, but it's really a very smooth finish without the smudges you see in the photo.

We have black cabinets and red cabinets. They're laminate, not a stain, but you get some idea...

would anyone do a dark counter on the black cabs or is contrast the only way to go? BTW...It wouldn't be the entire kitchen.

I wanted soapstone or slate, but decided it might be too dark & overwhelming since my cabinets go up 10'. Plus, I'm very fond of butcher block.

My concern about putting our dark soapstone on our black island is that it would look like a big block sitting in the middle of the room. We'll probably go with a contrasting cement for the island top.

If we had more light in our kitchen, I wouldn't hesitate to go with black cabinets. Classy and classic, somehow.

The black cabs are planned for 1 wall of the perimeter with no uppers. So would you still think a black counter would not look good?

Malhgold, I think it could work & will look great. Of course, the next owner will probably dub you a witch - head of the coven no doubt - whereas I'm going to be the crazy old woman who painted verdigris color on the insides of her black cabinets!

Thanks very much to everyone who has posted replies - the information has been very helpful. We've settled on using black for the island, bar and desk (with a light marble or granite) and are still up in the air with respect to the perimiter cabinets. Thanks again.

    Hi All!

Does anyone recognize the pendant lights on the Brian Gluckstein kitchen? They look really high end, like everything else in that kitchen.... Or, have you seen anything similar?

Sorry to hijack the post newlondon!
