Kitchen layout

We are in the middle of renovation and I am not crazy about our "final" kitchen layout. We are forced to have a weird corner in the kitchen becasue of how are house sits in relation to the garage and our now connecting the two.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions. thank you in adavance for your time.

Gee, thanks for the .exe file. Everyone: avoid, don't download this file, and definitely DO NOT open/run it.

Download the PDF not exe. The exe. Is for the sites advertising. The PDF is my kitchen layout.

the kitchen shape is kind of unique but I like the openess. One thing I would consider is to move the frig over a bit to the left to lengthen the work area around the stove. (that is if I read what I believe your frig to be right) It opened up in PDF form for me.

Renee82: The file does work correctly. I'm not a layout guru but I would read the Layout help section in the "Read Me If You're New To GW Kitchens! for suggestions on how to get the most help.

Layout Help is the 5th star down, thanks to Buehl.

Oh, I apologize. It looks like your cooktop is angled in the corner, your fridge is the 36" on the bottom, and an oven cab next to it, is that correct? Is the right side of the island an overhang for seating?

Also, it looks like the aisle measurements are cabinet to cabinet and not counter to counter. Note that standard counter overhangs jut out 1.5" from the cabinet face, so your aisles are all 3" less wide than marked.

The 27" cab by the doorway looks like a hip banger, so you may consider angling that off.

You may consider moving the prep sink farther right to gain prep counter at the edge or the range. Although, I am still not sure of the placement of my own prep sink after playing with it over a year, so take that one with a grain of salt! :)

I'm interested to see what the more experience layout gurus can do for you, but you may wish to post an actual .jpg in the post, with labels for the cooktop, fridge, ovens, pantry etc. Many won't comment without this. To do this, save your .pdf as a .jpg, I think Adobe Acrobat will let you do it. Then open a photobucket account and upload the .jpg. Then repost and paste the HTML code from the photobucket picture into the post. This is the one you want (not my pic):

Can you tell us anything about the traffic patterns?

I'm assuming the door on the angled section on the left goes to the garage. Yes? Will groceries be brought in that way? Is there any transitional space between the kitchen and garage, or will people be walking in there with coats, boots, and backpacks?

Is the right side of the kitchen open to a family room or other? Doorway on the bottom wall to dining room or other? Do you use a dining room regularly? Do you want to? Which path, above the island or below it, do you think is likely to get the most traffic to and from the garage? How many cooks in the family?

One comment about the vent hood, just to make sure you're aware of it: it looks to be several inches shallower than the cooktop, and if it is in fact proportioned as drawn, it may not cover the front burners well. I have such a set-up (21" deep hood, a compromise choice due to many factors) and it works well enough, but searing has to happen on the back and middle burners, not the front.
