Featherweight

I love my Featherweight 221, it is just dream to sew on and I'd grab it first and run out the door if there was a sudden fire. Only cost a hundred, bought it from a friend. Any of you have one? What's the story on yours?

I have two 221's, one is named Suzie after my great-aunt who was a milliner (hat maker), the other is named Benita after Suzie's sister who was also my grandmother. I bought them from the sewing machine tech who services my Berninas. His mom owns an antique store, so when she got a nice one in, he would contact me. You got a great price, mine were $350 and $325. I love them! Mostly, tho, they are the centerpieces of my sewing room...I don't sew on them, but I love just looking at them. They run beautifully, and if I was a quilter, I'd probably use them more. Suzie was "born" on 8/11/52, and Benita was "born" 8/19/47. There's a FW group, I think on Yahoo, that you may want to join. Lots of good info to be had there.
    Enjoy your girl!

Aren't they wonderful! I love the little FW sound they make when they sew. I got mine from an excellent dealer in Canada several years ago. She's vintage....like me...released the same year that I was born. I named her Gracie. She loves to travel to quilt retreats! I'll probably take her to the mountains in September.

The Yahoo group is Featherweight Fanatics. There's also a group called Vintage Singers.

I believe the FW Fanatics are on the World Wide Quilting web site and requires a paid subscription. The Yahoo Featherweight Group does not require a paid membership. The official name of the Yahoo Group is Singer Featherweight 221-222k.

I tried to provide a link to the Yahoo FW site, but Garden Web wouldn't let me. Said it was spam.

Yeah, GW doesn't play nice with Yahoo Groups, that's why I gave the name of the Yahoo Group for Featherweights. You just Goggle "Yahoo Groups" then do a search for "Singer Featherweight 221-222k" on the Groups page.

I am usually on the other forums and am surfing a bit and couldnt resist this thread. I have 3 of them and I adore them all. I used to work in a quilt shop and a customer came in and asked if anyone would be interested in hers for$200. Of course I was! Then I found one later in a pennysaver ad and it was only $125. Both are in great shape, have all of their parts and included the cases. I found one someplace else and I cant remember where or how much and it was jsut the machine- probably use it for parts. I always look for the case at yardsales etc. or read all CL ads for sewing machines just in case
I never thought to name them poor babies, i will have to now. I used to take them quilting with me either for fun or when I taught. I havent quilted in years tho.
