Help with colors - please

OK, so I think I have a good layout for my remodel and I will post it soon for everyones comments. I have been struggling with the flooring and have found a tile that I love. I wanted a color that was not too light (since it will go in the FR as well), or too dark (we live in the woods, so not a lot of natural light, and I have a yellow lab who sheds like crazy).

I am going for a warm, relaxed, transitional/contemporary look.

Now I am worred that the granite I have been dreaming of - Honed VA Mist, will not look right with the tile. My cabinets will be a natural cherry, shaker. What do you think? If that won't work, what shades should I consider? I should mention that I originally did not want granite or silestone becasue I hate the shine, and was thinking Corain until I saw the honed granite.

Or can I tie the dark counter to the lighter floor with a backsplash that incorporates both colors?

Also, I should mention that the tile has darker spots that pick up the cabinet color, and in my house it actually looks more grey than gold. It really does look like "sand" with shells scattered in it.
