seven needle machine

On 'Sewing with Nancy' the other day on TV, Nancy showed a machine that had seven needles only, no thread. The needles went up and down as a sewing machine would do, and attached two pieces of fabric together, without thread. Each needle, apparently, had macroscopic barbs on them that brought small amounts of the fabric up into the second fabric, and attaching the two fabrics together. I never saw anything like that machine before.

Would some one tell me what that machine is called?

I think it's called an embellisher. I remember seeing that BabyLock had one on their website.

I just checked the Baby Lock site, and it is called an embellisher. I can't imagine what you'd do with it though, not to mention the cost. They don't list the price of the machine, but I bet those special needles aren't cheap!

I've also seen something called a FeltScaper in JoAnn's ads (at least I think that's where I've seen them) - I don't know if it's the same type of thing.

The needles for the Embellisher are expensive if you buy them from a dealer, but you can also use a hand felting needle that has been cut to size. I have been doing this for some time with no problems. You can also use different size needles...Babylock only sells size 40 needles. If you have any questions about how to do this, just let me know.
