The last time I made my own sweat pants, I did a casing around the bottom and did elastic.

Otherwise I would serge or zigzag around the edges, press up 1", and either do a hemstitch or hand sew it. Shouldn't be too bulky, that way.

I like ribbed knit cuffs on my sweatpants. I will even replace the hems on store-boughts with cuffs.

I'm the opposite of noinwi,i can't stand the knitted cuffs and always cut them off.I then fold up a hem and straight stitch it.

overcast the raw edge and just stitch around, maybe two lines of stitching. That's the flattest way.
