The substrate is wood with silver paint, and then 2 coats of Polycrylic sealer.

Yes, and right now I'm in 3! lol I'm not just doing mosaics for them though. But this one wanted something in glass.

Love seeing your work back on here and especially like to see all the stages of someone who plans her work. Hopefully, I'll be able to do that some day. Love those colors and agree your pieces are perfect. So now you and bama have recently created beautiful works with dark blue and brown...hum, now where did I put that brown?

No wet saw here. I found this great little cutter at my local glass shop, and it works AMAZING!

With that, my Dremel, hand held glass cutter and my Lepponitt's I'm all set!

I'm glad you all like seeing my thinking and process on my pieces. Planning is just part of that little problem I have...I'm anal about planning. lol

Glad to see you working again. Hey, that circle cutter is great. Can't figure out how it works. Can you show us? I might want to get one of those. Since I haven't looked at the Morton book since I bought it and learned to make diamonds, don't know if it cuts circles. I surely would like to make some. Can you give us a picture of how it works? You project w/be very nice. Keep us posted.

The Score1 will cut any shape. The leaves on the stems were also cut with my Score1.

It has a blade like the hand held cutters (1) that is lifted by holding down the trigger on the side (2). The cutter can be adusted according to the glass thickness (3). The tension is adjusted for the cutting (4). Finally, you turn the handle on the side (5) as you guide the glass through the design you want to cut.

Once you score your glass use your running pliers to remove the excess.

So far I've had success with each cut turning out as planned.

Oh, forgot to say it reminds me of a mini sewing machine.

Still can't figure out how it works - call me stupid, but I just can't picture how it'll cut circles from 3" to 13".

I won't call you stupid, because probably like me you need to see how things work. Which just means you are a hands on person, too.

There is an attachment that will cut larger circles, but I only have the Score1 itself.

All I do is draw the shape on my glass, raise the cutter then as I guide the glass with one hand I turn the handle with my right. The cutter turns and the glass surface is cut along my design on the glass.

Wow, that is probably more confusing than before. I'm sorry slow. Tell me what would make it easier?

Here is the progress so far on this WIP. The glue is still wet in this image.

I'm thinking of doing mirror around the edge instead of blue. Thoughts?

Love the multicolored background! I think mirror around the edge would be a nice frame. I would be afraid that using blue would make it look too 'left heavy'.

If all goes according to plan I'll be grouting this one tomorrow.

The mirror edge does not photograph well, but I think andrea was right.

Grout is brown and really makes the light colors pop. Hope my swap partner likes it.

Please don't take another hiatus from mosaics! Your work is beautimous and should be shared - often :-)

Your swap partner will love that! It always amazes me how grout can just really make a piece come alive. It looked good ungrouted but now that its grouted it looks awesome!!!! I really like the mirror around the edges...

Absolutely wonderful. LOVE the colors - they fit the design, and the brown grout is PERFECT. DO NOT take another hiatus!!!

Wonderful, I'm glad YOU thought light switches are easy. The only one I've done was for my b.r., and I HATED doing it. It was a tripple and I didn't enjoy the fussy little pieces - just can't seem to work that small. Your work is so precise and beautiful. Your Swap Partner is gonna be a very happy recipient.

This turned out wonderful! I have a question for you, though. When you use large pieces of mirror like this, do you cover them when you grout? I have only used mirror in indirect stepping stones, so I wasn't wiping anything gritty across them. Will the grout scratch the mirror if it's left unprotected?

I've used both sanded and unsanded grout with mirrors, and not had any problems. However, with mirrors I do try to use unsanded just in case. If you get that one large piece of sand it for sure could scratch.

Just to update you all. The pieces matched her house perfect! I even sent her an extra one I'd done sometime ago, and it matched her home, too. You would have thought I had seen her house colors!
