Finished outer space bedroom - pics

Here are pics of the bedroom I redecorated for my son aged 4 with an outer space theme. As you can see it is a very small space: a former porch off the back of another bedroom which is being used as a play room. There is a large doorway to the adjoining room that you can't see in the pictures but it is to the right of the crescent moon light.

The Wallies are much bigger than I expected but I think they look fabulous. J. was thrilled when he came home from a long visit to grandma's to his new room.

Here is part of the room before I turned it into his bedroom so you have a sense of how it looked:

And here are two views of the main part of the finished room:

As you can see I have not quite finished making the curtains (one is lined the others are not) but I had to close them because the sun was blazing in and all three walls have windows.

And I still need to find some way to secure the light cord to the moulding better than duct tape:-)

And here is one of the ceiling - which actually looks better in real life because the navy is a bit washed out in the photo. In the pic the stars look a bit wimpy. But both the stars and the planets glow in the dark and I like the fact that the stars are also attractive in daylight against the navy. I might buy another package of them, though, for more density. I tried to arrange the planets around the light as if it were the sun and put them at roughly the right distance away from it. Am I a nerd or what!

At the other end of the room is another window with a window seat below it and a bench cushion that I recovered in a cute blue fabric with a star print. And I had to paint the door hardware silver because the previous owners had painted the entire thing over in the same green as the walls (see first pic).

oops! I guess I hung that panel for curtain fabric on the side. Light blue spot?? Must be the camera.

Both lights are from Ikea, as is the bed and the curtain rods and the bedside table (one of their cheap unfinished pine ones that I painted red).

Oh, how marvelous and absolutely perfect for your four-year-old! Placing the planets correctly is not nerdy at all-I would have done trhe same thing! Never too soon for your DS to start developing his understanding of things like that in a subtle and fun way (incidental learning)! :)

It's so cute! A space theme is one of my favorites for a little boy. You did it so well.
No boys in our house - we have flowers and horses.

Thanks everyone. Does he love it? Well, that's an interesting story. He loved it when he first saw it, but after sleeping in his new room for over a week he now says he is scared in the new room and wants to switch back to his old bedroom. That is easier said than done because I swapped over a lot of furniture and that room is now a tv room/guest room with a futon couch in it. What to do?!

We wanted to switch the rooms because the playroom/new bedroom is larger and his former bedroom is the smallest of the bedrooms. The larger room did not function well as a playroom/guest room because when we get visitors, usually grandparents, they often stay for several weeks and we figured it would work much better as a bedroom/playroom for one of the kids. We also thought it made sense for us to use the larger rooms for our family and use the smallest room as the guest room. My DD wanted to switch rooms, but we had already decorated her room for her and I didn't want to switch around three rooms and redecorate them all (and she has too much stuff to fit in the new space, anyway!). My DS was reluctant at first, but we have spent over a year talking to him about it and he said he wanted the new room now. I'm hoping he'll get used to it. If not, my DD will have to enjoy a space room because I ain't changing it any time soon!

OMG! All the work you put into it and now he's scared. Can you ask him what specifically he is scared of and maybe that might be something that can come down.
