My first pics! Birdhouses!

Oh, you've seen me around lately, and some of you even and asked for these when we "talked" back and forth. It's taken me forever to figure out how to manage my huge photofiles to get pics here, but I DID it! I will now be a contributing member! Here's a start! I got this big box of plates at a garage sale and made these two houses and more with them , and still have loads left.

The second birdhouse was a request from friends that wanted one they could give as a gift. It had to be "Asian with a curved roof"!Now what were my chances of bending ceramic? LOL But I think I DID it!

Hurrah! I'm now a contributor on this fun forum!

GREAT score on the plates...LOVE the color and design!
Your birdhouses are just so pretty and unique. The second one looks just like a japanese teahouse! (not that I even know what that looks like, but still...)

Holy dawg snot!! Glad you're a poster now.
Those are some bodacious plates and those bird houses are right up there with the Taj Mahal!!

Really nice find on the plates, and great use of them. I went to Japan a few years ago to visit my niece's family (military posting) and we got to see some of the temples, etc. and I think you did a great job of catching the "flavor" of them.

GREAT plates and you did a lovely job with them on the birdhouses! My 6 yr old grson was looking over my shoulder as I was looking at the pics - his comment was "Tell her those are NEAT. I like the second one best of all" (Yes, I am working on turning him into a mosaic addict, too. So far his favorite part is breaking things! LOL!)

Those are wonderful! Esp like the asian inspired one! What is on the roof besides the coins?

Thanks for all your wonderful encouragement! A friend showed me the basics of these last winter using broken SouthWest pottery, and I adapted her style, but use the ceramic plates that I find here in California since I can't get the pottery.

The roof is a slate-like rock that breaks into tile-like pieces that we find along the roadside hills here in the Northern California foothills. But if I didn't have that, I'd resort to other stones, or acorns or pinecone" leaves" or something else.

Congrats on two counts - scoring those wonderful plates, and making such unique birdhouses. I REALLY like your style. Using found objects in one's surroundings is my idea of wonderful mosaicing techniques.

Gorgeous! I love this. It is very unique and like nothing I've seen done to a birdhouse mosaic.

Very clever style you have going on there...I would have never thought to mix twigs with china..I love those, beautiful plates too but your design work is what made them special!
