Accent wall, purple sofa

Hi everyone, I'm looking for suggestions on what to do in our living area in terms of color. We have an eggplant colored leather sofa - very modern, two gray area rugs (not attached to these at all), and some abstract art on the wall -vibrant colors, primarily blues and yellows. The room is a big open room with hardwood floors (medium golden color) - the home is a 60's split foyer so all the lines are boxy and hard. There are two huge windows with heavy purple drapes (same color as the sofa).

For some reason I am paralyzed by this room. I'm not afraid of color at all, I'm just perplexed as to where to go since the sofa is such a strong color itself. You can see into the dining room and kitchen from the room and they are painted BM Night Flower and BM Grasshopper respectively. I am looking for any suggestions for paint color -either for an accent wall- the wall on the staircase runs two stories and would be a good accent I think or for an all over room color, though the back wall continues into a long hall, so I'm worried the hall will be cave-like if I go too dark with hue. The room is white right now, which I hate, but I'm just not sure what to do with it instead.

I love purple with a true grey. I also think grey would play nicely with your night flower and grasshopper too. Another bolder option might be wasabi like beekeeperswife has done in her livingroom and I think she has purple accents in her room. Can you post pics of your sofa and room?

BM Hawthorne Yellow, have this in my dining room above the chair rail, and below the chair rail is purple (BM Caponata), Some other colors that may work BM Affinity line Elemental or Angelica.

I love our BM Wales Green that coordinates with deep purple nearby. It is a perky color, like a frozen margarita. We had ours done to 75%, but we could have gone full strength. Someone here did not like it in their house, so I wimped out. I should have been a little bolder because I think that would have been lovely after all.

An acid tone green would also look great.

These are great suggestions - my only concern with a green is the visibility of the BM Grasshopper green in the kitchen, I'm afraid it might look jarring with two shades of green not in the same hue family close to each other. I had thought a chartreuse accent wall, but then I talked myself out of it - maybe I should revisit that and put a sample on the wall and live with it a few days. The Wales Green would be beautiful all over, but it is close enough to the Grasshopper that I'm afraid it may look very odd when viewed together (make one look yellow or one look dirty or something). What do you guys think?

Roarah - what tone of gray were you thinking? I got a bunch of gray chips initially thinking I'd go that way and I couldn't ever settle on a shade.

sloyd - I like the Hawthorne Yellow. Do you think it would read ok in a relatively dark space (the hall)?

I have a purple hall next to my dark grey living room. The color is a glidden one mixed in BM paint it was glidden Seal grey but it might be a little dark for you but it plays nicely with my purple hallway. if this is too dark I used Granite gray also a glidden color in a bath and it is a shade or to up from seal. Here is a shot of the grey next to purple

This is the bath a bit lighter in color.

I love the gray! That looks great with the floors too and they look identical to ours. I wonder if our Benjamin Moore guy would mix that into Aura for me... Thanks so much for the pictures! Gorgeous room.

I brought the glidden card to the BM store and mine is mixed in aura too. Hope it works for you!
