Interesting. Anxious to watch this project. Is that oil cloth on your table top? Oh, BTW - do you use your ring saw inside your art room? Mine throws water eveywhere, so I don't. Tell me how you do it to keep things from going crazy w/water everywhere?

Just a plastic tablecloth and a black garbage bag. I use my glass saw in my room, I only fill it to the line and use those red water tabs that came with it, they work good cuz I had the same problem too. I am glad I finally watched the dvd that came with it!lol! And wish I had the patience to cut like TMG does!!! Wowzers!!! If this experiemnt works I'm gonna be a VERY happy camper! I also did the bucket thing like panther did to try and shape it to more of a funkafied shroom! And Annie inspired the mortar idea with her medical wrap stuff....Now I just gotta figure out how to stop the tile saw from being so crazy with water, so I can bring it in the house!! It REALLY sprays all over!!!

So you're doing it like paper mache (spelling?)? I'll be watching also. I have my next one ready to put the cement on, but we've been out on the bikes when we had good weather, and inside hiding from the bad weather. I need to get myself out there tomorrow!

Great job Calamity! Everything you make is on my wanna do list too! That fascinates me but so does the hypertufa. I wanted to try that last summer & never did get around to it. I want to make some planters & then mosaic them.

I think that should work. It sounds like it would but I cant say from experience!!!

It's taking forever to dry! So not sure if it's working?!?! Oh where is Klinger when I need her!!!

Success!!! I am happy with this! It is ridgid and ready to go!!! I just need to finish doing it and I really like the way I can overlap the sides and get a good edge! Just can't help myself, I'm using these green plates for the majority of the body and these porceline tiles for the funky part. The tiles are some more, but different color, of the tiles I just used on Sammy the Salmon! I was going to use this really awesome copper slate for the body but just made this lil shroom and really like these plates!lol! So it's gonna be a green mushroom! Today I'll finish coating and nip all the plates. I'm giving my tumbler(God Bless it's Lil Heart!) a real workout!!!

I put the cement on the top of the cap today, doing the rest tomorrow is the plan. I sewed the cap & stem together on this one, and it was quite unstable as I was putting on the wet mud. I have it sitting in a bucket so that it won't fall over. I'll have to think about how I want to do the next one, I may go back to 2 pieces. I don't have any idea what I'm putting on it as far as mosaic. I've just been washing glass scraps, and eying dishes, but no ideas yet.

I'm gonna tell my DH you used the bucket idea, but may not tell him it was so you could go funky, since he was urging me to try it so that I could get a perfect bowl shape, LOL. He shaped his perfectly & cut it off at the edges. I did the top then moved mine around to get it a little more "organic". I know it drove him nuts to see me do it, LOL, but he tries to hold his tongue a bit ~ although he's not always successful.

DH is freakin' out cuz MY room is such a mess!!! He's home sick today and I sent him off to HIS room...the sauna!lol! Yup, real excited about this project(Oh ya, he critiqued that the stem was too high too!) wanna do a 5ft high one now!!! May do it with styrofoam and the mache wrap!!

OH those tiles are cool. I so want to try one of these this summer. Can't wait to see more of this.

We went to dinner with my son & his wife for son's BDay. He picked a place called the Mellow Mushroom (they are vegetarian/vegan) and it had a mushroom about 10 feet tall when you walked in the door! (Well, maybe only 8-9 feet, but above my head anyway)

The tiles/dishes get tumbled and the edges get nice and smooth, makes grouting even MORE fun!!! I'm tumbling the last couple loads of dishes and waiting for this puppy to cure...I am VERY happy with the way it is turning out! Here is the latest pic!

Well, girlie - another successful experiment. You are a real piece of work. This w/be a wonderful mushroom. So, if you put dish shards in your tumbler, they must be really small. How long do you run the tumbler for shards compared to the 30 min. for glass tiles?

So far beyond anything I can do, but I love watching you work! Looks like it's going to be a very pretty 'shroom! I am interested in the tumbling question, too.

I put pcs up to the size if you put your thumb and forefinger(okay sign) of dishes, tumble for 1/2hr and tada! Did this crow to pass the time while I wait for the shroom to dry...but I'm starting the shroom today!!!

I'm officially a sluggard now. I still have to crete the underside of the cap & the stem. (I did get to go to the kumquat festival today though, and eat kumquat pie, & taste kumquat ice cream & strawberry shortcake;)

It's 2ft high and is ready to grout by tomorrow. I want to try and make some smaller ones, or maybe two smaller ones, graduating in size to go with this one?! Dunno yet....

I mentioned that my DH made a smaller one for my mom to go with the big one, I think? Well my idea today was to figure out a way to make one that's even smaller, & looks like the cap hasn't opened yet. I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but that's the idea percolating right now, and she'll have a grouping of 3 if that happens.

I just finished putting the cement on mine today. I may have to go buy new grozier pliers to cut the glass for it if my son doesn't come back with my tools soon. And I'll be surprised if he's back before a couple of weeks anyway....
