patio almost finished

Here's a couple of pics of my patio. Thank you, Jane, for the great idea. I added a few whole tiles for color.

I'm adding three more squares at the end b/c one of the benches sits very close to the edge and when I sat on that styrofoam block (I had put them both in place to see how they fit) it felt a bit precarious. Also, after I put down all the bricks and counted the squares it came up to 30. Since this is in Our Lady Gardyn I decided to add the 3 more squares to make 33 squares, the last 3 representing the 3 years of Christ's ministry. I didn't even plan it that way and thought it kinda cool that the squares numbered 30 in the first place.

I'm hoping to pick up the rest of the tiles next week and then I can start making the benches - if the rain isn't too much and it doesn't get too cold. Nights here are already going down into the 30's!!

Oh, and I just have to add this pick of my orange flowering variegated abutilon. It is such a gorgeous plant and growing fantastically.

It's fabulous! The colored squares add an unexpected pop...really like it a lot!!!! What a labor of love! And, the plant sure is pretty!

Oh WOW!!! LUV IT!!! How did you color the mortar, outddor paint or cement tint/stain? Looks Great, and love the explaination of the 3 yrs!!! Now what's this bench idea????
It's just too cold still to be doing brick work here but I'm itching to!!! Klinger is coming over today and I'm gonna pick her brain about a ton of things!!! She is my Cement Goddess!!!Hee hee!(You are my Brick Queen!!!)

Hi, Cait! Wonderful patio addition! I love how the colored tiles light up the bricks! Do tell (if you don't ind, that is) how did you build up the area under the colored tiles so they'd be the same as the thickness of the brick??

I'm so jealous of your variegated abutilon. Here in Texas (zone 8) they're considered tropical and I'm trying not to buy any more plants I have to drag inside in the winter months.

Thanks everyone!!

Pat, I stuffed pieces of old, broken concrete into each 'hole' then brushed a dry cement/sand mix (6 parts sand, 1 part cement) into all the crevices. I stuck the pebbles and the tiles into the dry mix, swept the patio to even out the dry mix, then watered the whole thing.

Carolann, we get frost here, no snow, but that doesn't seem to bother the abutilons. I read where they say to give them lots of sun but my best flowering one is in full shade. And these guys never get watered unless it rains - and we've had very little rain all summer. I'm sure if you planted it in a protected area you'd be successful. They're just sooo beautiful!
