I wish I could do them here but they have the weirdest light switches in Oz - everyone has to have the SAME KIND cuz they only make ONE kind! Oz is a crazy place. No individualism. In NY I always changed my plate covers to match the decor but here it's mostly white with expensive upgrades to either a silver or bronze light switch. The plate itsn't seperate from the switch so I'd have to undo all the wiring... I am determined to figure out a way around it - can't be that difficult but with so many outside projects in my head that'll have to wait.

Well, I think it w/be easy enough to cut a creative surround from plywood, mosaic it, attach around your switchplates - probably have to be in two parts, then w/Krylon for plastic, paint your existing plates???? W/that work?? Where's there's a will to mosaic, there's a way. I know what you mean about dividing your time w/garden projects. I'm trying to do both right now.

Slow - the real obstacle is making something thin enough so that you can still turn the darn thing on and off. The 'switch' itself is pretty flat - you don't flick it with your finger but have to press it with the pad of your finger tip. I did once make a cover out of clay but then it was kinda difficult to work the switch. I think just some kind of covering for the outter edge of the plate. I've been trying to work out how to do it so it looks neat without obstucting its servicability since I moved here nearly 8 years ago. But now with these fantastic mosaiced switchplates I'm more determined than ever to figure out what to do - but I have to keep in mine 'code' which is VERY important and restrictive here. Oz is a super socialist nanny state. I betcha the USSR had more freedom than Aussies do.

Cait, maybe paint them funky and just glue buttons etc!

Well how RUDE of me. I responded to CAIT and didn't tell you, FOX, how much I like your switchplates. Doncha just love a easy/fun/fast project? I grouted another one day b/f yesterday, and glued another one yesterday. I like all yours. Very neatly done.

I like all of them and that the grout is different. I don't know why I haven't tried one yet, it really would dress up a room. I never knew that the switchplate and wiring could be one.

I made one for my granddaughter a few weeks ago and just made a few more. My daughter claimed the brown earth tones one (the one I want! LOL) and has requested another single one and a double light switch!
My sisters and I don't exchange birthday gifts anymore... but I am thinking of giving them one of these this year. They are so easy and I want to do something special for them.
