CL Score -- finally!

Our CL trends toward the black office chair/golden oak country dining room set/halogen torchiere school of decorating. There is very seldom anything that speaks to me. Lately I've been on there looking for office furniture and then I clicked on an ad that said "tile top table." I figured it would be one of those tall spindly metal plant stands. But there is always hope it could be something like this little Taylor Tile-type table that I have and adore:

I clicked, and, lo and behold:

A perfectly lovely little ca. 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival table. I hotfooted it over there and got it! It was never stained, and the green paint is either original, or the table came unfinished (which is, I think, unusual). It's not as detailed as the one I have, but the tile is actually in better shape. I'm ecstatic, and am out a whopping $20! It is sitting safely in the other room as we speak.

CL, you have redeemed yourself.

cooperbailey - Spanish Colonial revival was one of the romantic architectural historic revivals between the wars. Think the Addison Mizner houses in Florida, Nora's house on "Brothers and Sisters", Cam's building on "Modern Family" and Barbara Stanwyck's house in "Double Indemnity". Stucco, barrel-tile roofs, arches, very romantic and picturesque. There are some offshoots/subsets of the style, like Mission, Territorial, Mediterranean. I've put a link to some images at the bottom.

nancybee - what do you mean, how am I using it? Since when are we actually required to use the things we impulsively purchase from CL? Is it not acceptable to simply stack them up in the spare bedroom? In all seriousness, I have no actual use for this table. The existing table was a side table in our old house (1925 Spanish bungalow). But currently it serves as a printer stand in my home office. I think the two of them may wind up in my office as side tables.

Here are some shots of my existing table and the new one. I'm wondering if maybe the new one was a kit of some kind, but still of the era. You know, 1920s "unfinished furniture", and you put your own tiles on top. Because the mortar is a bit thicker and less neat. And that would explain the period tiles, but the table being simpler and unfinished but for the slapdash green paint. Some pics of both:

jakabedy- lol- At first I thought you were mad at me! (And so far I have avoided that here!)

How do you feel about sharing some pics of your home? You have given us little glimpses of your decorating and it looks so cozy and interesting. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see more!

WOW, that is so weird. you must have been looking in bham because I had considered getting that table! It's too cute. What a trip.

Awesome! And I spoke too soon. I found a retro coffee table that I'm picking up tomorrow.

nancybee - The first photo is from our last house. It was definitely cozy and pleasantly shabby. Sometimes I really miss it. The current house is MCM, all glass and open space. I love it, too.

Last house (fabulous, and in a terrible area):

The current house (and why I don't have a ready location for my little tile tables):

Thanks for sharing the pics. Wow, you really have a flair for decorating! Both places are warm and wonderful, and in such different ways.

And it must be so nice to look out on those lovely trees.

We will be getting new carpet for the upstairs. The kids have their bedrooms upstairs and there is a guest room and playroom. I would like to get a type of frieze, but what is in/out? I am leaning toward a more solid, but medium dark color/brownish with gray tones (actual carpet is Statuesque, Rough Timber-color). Are the ones with colored flecks going to date the house or is dark even "in" for carpets? It will also run up the stairs so it will be seen from the living area. HELP, it is such a big expense & I don't want it to look "dated" now or in the next 5 years!! Oh the walls are primarily a green-gray-tan...Tobacco LEAF, one bedroom Tobacco Road and two girls have a light tan/gray, Early Morning Mist.

Sorry, I don't know how my carpet post ended up here. I appologize. Kate
