Anyone watch Design Star tonight?

I was just wondering if knows if the floor Trish used was hardwood or laminate. For some reason I was thinking it was laminate, so I was looking at the website to see if they listed the brand. I couldn't find the details for her room, but I did find a page that lists her favorite items. There was a hardwood floor on there, so now I'm wondering if that's what she put in her parents house.

Here is a link that might be useful: Trish's favorite floor

No it was definately laminate that she put in, I could tell by the way it was installed. There is a new product out by Bruce that goes together as this laminate product did but has a thin "real wood" on the top layer. Looks like plastic though. My mom did this and was really disappointed in it. She had this "new" product in her entry way, pergo in the kitchen and the Bruce true hardwoods everywhere else. The pergo in the kitchen was FAR superior to the entryway - was supposed to give the ease of pergo installation yet with a "wood" look. Was plastic looking and still is...What Trish used I don't know but for sure was laminate (whether was the wood grain top or not I don't know...)

I think she said it was laminate.

There's a thread on the coversation side of this board where we discuss the Design Star shows. If you'd like to check over there I'm sure some discussion will be about this flooring.

    Laminate, for sure.

Laminate, I was listening for sure.

If that link was the exact floor she used, it didn't look anything like that..........at least not on my TV. I thought it was a poor choice for the money she was allowed to spend in her parent's home.

I agree that it was a poor choice. Laminate is fine but for retired people the real wood is the best choice. I felt the rug she used was all wrong for the room but just my opinion.

I know this is OT, but I missed it last night!!! Can someone just tell me who got booted off?

Thanks, everyone. I'll keep checking the website and maybe they'll put up the product list. So, a couple of you thought it was a poor choice because it wasn't wood, but what did you think of it for a laminate? Did you like the color and the overall look? I really want hardwoods, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford it, so I'm looking at laminate also.

No, I didn't like the color and the overall look. The dark gray color and the prominent joints between the "floorboards" looked cheezy and oppressive, but that's just my opinion. Aside from the color, I've seen much better-looking laminate than what Trish used.

Is engineered wood any less expensive than solid hardwoods?

Laurie I just put Bruce hardwood floors in my den and they cost only a small amount more than a good quality laminate. I got the floors in butterscotch which is very similar to the ones on Design Star Sun. You may be able to do the hardwood and if not the laminate is supposed to be better than the engineered wood. Check them out carefully.

The worst thing about those laminate floors that Trish put in (other than the shoddy install job) was that they looked horrible next to the real wood floor in the entry. She should have replaced the entry floor also so that it would flow together.

My thoughts exactly, terriks. The one she chose was so much darker than the existing floor. It looked awful.

I didn't like that chincy floor either.

It kills me how much hardwood floors cost now a days. They use to be standard in a home back in the day. And carpet was a luxury. I remember when I was a kid and my parents bought white wool carpeting to cover up the gorgeous hardwood floors.

Shoot I remember in the mid seventy's I bought whip cream carpeting to go in my living room. And I too covered up beautiful honey colored hardwoods. But left the hardwood floors bare upstairs. I remember thinking how warm and gorgous my living room was. However, I was only renting and had the carpeting taken up when I moved.

If carpeting was in vogue again, I bet hardwood floors would be cheap. Supply and demand I suppose.

Didn't they get $10K to do their room? I would think she could have done real wood & replaced the existing with that much $$ to spend. I think they kicked off the right person.
