Well, of course it's up to the individual, but I usually spend only $1 per plate. However, if it is really special, such as beautiful birds or a certain special color or design that I covet, then I will pay as much as $3 per plate. Purple is kind of rare . . . I might be tempted.

Do you mean each plate is 8 dollars? or $8 for the set? How many in the set. Gosh NOTHING is too high if what you are buying is Purple!!! LOL

I love purple too. I'm a newbie so my work isn't ready for 8$ a plate. I stick to a dollar or two. I have paid 3 for tile tho. PJ

$5 and $8 per plate does seem kind of high. Offer them a lower price for the whole set. On the other hand, purple is hard to come by! Big help, huh?

I"ve never bought plates to break yet, so I can't tell you, but purple!!! I love purple and it is rare to find plates in that color.

I agree with the others, seems like $8 a plate is a bit steep, but for a whole set of plates, well that is a different story...

And I would ask for a discount, they usually do give you 10% if you ask, and sometimes if they have been there a long time, they are willing to go lower. I used to have a booth and I know when times were slow, I would giver deeper discounts

The most I've spent for a breaking plate is $3 and I even cringed at spending that much. I don't think I could break an $8 plate that is chip-free even if it is purple! ;-)

I say buy what you can afford, use and enjoy them, then break 'em once they chip!

Good one Shrty! Lol! I have a breaking point, and I think I paid $4, once, but for a porceline plate that is a great pattern or color..hmmm. Good colored and good breaking plates(They are not all good breaking plates) are getting rarer and rarer to find these days(at Ts), if I found a set, like 8 or more plates, I might pay as high as $15. I've been finding the plates I prefer are usually porceline and thin, and made in China. They are gooood breakin' plates! I don't like the way the thick ceramic ones, flake and have a uneven edge after you nip em. Sheesh, I didn't know I was such a connoiseur of plate nipping!(if there is such a thing!lol!)

I saw a beautiful service for four (bowls, saucers, mugs and plates)in a beautiful red w/a pattern at Walmart last week, but couldn't bring myself to pay nearly $40 for the set. Nope - wouldn't pay what you quoted for each piece, as hard as it would be to pass up purple. Why don't you use the paint/faux Van Gogh method to get your color. It's really easy.

Too steep for me to pay...I usually only pay 3 dollars or under..........however, I haven't had any luck lately finding plates.............

I have to admit I have cut up 8.00 plates before but they were a pieces I was keeping.I've probably paid over that but if I love it I do it.

I've gone to 1.99 for a plate to break, but I'm really cheap when it comes to something with only a patterned rim. If it is an all-over design, I might go as high as 3.50.

Thanks for the input everyone. I will not be able to go back for a little while. The shop is about 45min away. But Maybe when I make it back if they are still there they will be willing to make a deal. The background was white and the design was an all over design in purple. They had some other pieces like cups and serving platter as well. If I go back maybe I can take a picture.
