Greetings and welcome back! Well, are you thinking of doing your mosaic direct or indirect (ie: gluing the tesserae directly to the tub or gluing them to the mesh and then to the tub)? Personally, I've done a couple of larger projects by placing my pieces face down on painters or masking tape, then applying thinset to the substrate and simply "mooshing" the section in place. Removed the tape c.a.r.e.f.u.l.l.y after the thinset was fully cured.

Cait's gorgeous bench may also give you some ideas..sorry I don't know how to link to the thread, but someone else can do it I'm sure.

Bebob, I'm a newbie , not sure about "wire mesh" but if you are looking for making something via the indirect method, you can buy (heavy brown paper)Kraft paper at most places like Michaels etc. I also found it on ebay , just search for kraft paper.

I have been using plain old clear contact paper for my stepping stones. You can buy that at your local grocery store, home depot etc...

Both would work if you wanted to make your design ahead of time and then transfer it to your tub later. Like Pat said, if you click on Cait's link about her bench WIP , she explains how she uses the indirect method ...

I also wondered if you meant tile grids that you can use to space your tiles . I have found them at almost every store that sells mosaic tiles . they have various grids for 3/8th 3/4th tiles... etc...

I use the wide tape, like for packing boxes, b/c I can't find the fiberglass mesh around where I live, either. I make my design then tape over it. But unlike Pat's very intelligent method of smooshing the whole thing onto the thinset then removing the tape once the thinset has cured, I remove each piece, thinset it, then place it where it needs to go. See! I'm still a newbie when it comes to methodology! LOL Thanks Pat for the lesson!! ROFLMHO!!!!!!!!!! No wonder it's taking me so long to get anything done! SHEESH!

Haven't tried any tape/mesh whatever, but sure would love to see some pics of stuff you've done, BEBOP, and glad you've come out of lurkdom.
