It's been a long time since I looked at a crossstitch pattern but I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you. Basically, you would use the overall design, so why not?

Fave, I can hardly believe this question!! Just got back from my mom's house looking thru our combined collection of X-stitch books and patterns! Couldn't draw my way out of a paper bag if the top was open.

I think it can be done, with a coupla conditions met....the squares would have to be pretty uniform to avoid throwing off the design; also, even tho there are many colors of stained glass, we'd probably have to use a certain degree of creative license with the pattern to make up for a lack of the "right" colors.

Ya gonna try it?? I'd love to follow your progress and will post mine (if I can get enough completed to get to the top of my workbench so there's a place to lay it out!)

i think i will, i just ordered 1100 tiles and they should be here soon. i found a moon, smiley face, and some hearts to try. all easy and no 1/2 stitches on the cross stitch pattern. not sure what i will put them on but i am going to give it a try. will keep you posted

Fave, yes it will work! When I was teaching 5th grade I did it with paper squares with my class for a Christmas art project. They turned out so cute!! Just be ready to take that "creative license' where you need to and it should work out fine. My students would do it on their own in their free time after that. Getting a pattern with no half stitches is a good idea, but cutting triangles shouldn't be too hard for you. Just remember to start in the middle, just like cross stitch. At one time I created custon cross stitch designs and taught a class for a shop in Wichita, Kansas, and that was something I always tried to emhpasize for beginners.

You can definitely use a cross stitch pattern! I have a computer software that you can scan in a picture and it will give you a charted pattern back like a cross stitch and also a list of what glass and how much it will take. Bought it through Delphi but then my scanner broke and havent been able to afford replacing it! And you can follow a pattern becuz half stitches would just be a triangle and such. Good luck!

so i laid out several of the patterns to see if i could get it to work, and it does but they are big. i figured out how to cut a triangle so that helps.
