Mosaic Class: a Smashing Success

Oh gosh, You guys ain't heard anything til you hear a group of beginning mosaic students smashing plates at the same time. I swear I was smiling ear to ear.

I think they all had a good time. Today was the first session they got to work on the stepping stone project. They all brought in dishes and plates and tile to smash. And smash they did.

I did hear "Wow, this is a lot more work than I thought it would be." but said in a pleasant voice. I hear the same thing when I teach pottery.

I also had a great talk with the program director afterwards. I told him how the group seemed to have had a good time. And apologizes for the noise. We were loud but it couldn't be helped. I hope the painting group next door wasn't too put out about the noise. :)

Sounds like you had a great time. I'm sure you'll get at least a couple mosaic nuts out of the group!!

To heck with those painters. Let them invest in ear plugs

Good for you to take on a project like that. What age are the students? Didja take pictures - wanna see their WIPs.

oh wow this is weird I responded to this yesterday but the response musta went poof.

My students are all adults, 20 something to senior citizens. No pictures cause I don't have a camera.

I find the different approaches each student has taken very interesting. I find the differences in color choices interesting. I guess I find the whole adult learning process interesting.

I got one student that is rushing to the finish going with a random approach and is the only one to thinset anything on her stepping stone yet. I've got one student that took the entire time to plan his stone layout. Another student musta bought out goodwill of any and all bright colored dish and is going gangbuster at the smashing. Another goes with a monochromatic green theme. I find it all rather interesting.

WOW!!! Wish I was there, there's something to be said about mosaicing and smashing together!!! Fun! Fun! Fun!
