and how crazy can you sound?

Grocery shopping tonight... I get to the freezer isle and stop dead in my tracks (cue heavenly music) there in front of me is... LAAAAAAAHHH!!!! a broken glass freezer door

oh my... crazy thoughts run through my head as I stand infront of the sign that reads DO NOT OPEN. ((I could just push it in and smuggle it out sandwiched between those frozen pizza boxes))) no no no, I like this store, what if they throw me out and bann me from shopping here? Just move along, forget it.

So I make my way down the dairy isle and ponder, how crazy am I? will I actually do what I'm thinking?

I check out and... stop at the desk. "I know this sounds crazy but, when the broken door is repaired can that glass be saved for me?" she looks about 17 and seems speechless, then she picks up the phone and dials the upstairs office. "There's a lady here that wants to know if we can save the broken glass from the freezer door... yeah, she knows it sounds crazy" Well she took down my name and number... maybe I'll get a call! LOL

You are so funny! I imagine they will be talking about you at that store for quite a while.
We were eating at a fancy resteraunt a few weeks ago when all of a sudden there was this big crash in the kitchen. I looked at my husband and ssid "Oooo, mosaic material"!!
He threatend to walk out on me if I asked for the broken dishes. Lucky for him they weren't that pretty....

Doesn't sound all THAT crazy to me.....just think about how much you're saving from the landfill by recycling that glass ;))

well, I figure - Calamity has "rescued" toilet shards from a dumpster and Seaglassic has 50 bowling balls stashed away in the hills...

    I'm normal right? lol

LOL, good story NT. Are you sleeping/dreaming of what you will do with all that glass? You are so lucky if they do save it for you!

Hey, girlie, you're more normal than most of the people in the super there w/you tonight - using common sense - justa minding your own l'il business and your business is mosaics. Who gives a rat's patooty anyway - you're an artist, and we're ALL just a tad weird!!! What could be more normal? You'll most probably get your door. You are a REAL piece of work, you know that???. I love you!!! Your DH is gonna put up a front, but deep down, he is VERY proud of you. Won't be long, you'll overhear him taking credit for some of your ideas. Been there, experienced that.

My husband came roaring home from an errand last weekend shouting "There's an accident on A and B streets!!!" My first instinct was - "is it someone we know?"

He looks at me strangely and says "no . . . broken glass!!!" He grabbed a broom, box, and my 15 year old son and they went and swept up the accident scene!

I thank God everyday for marrying this man 25 years ago! He's a God among men!

Ha!! Mosaicwench you cracked me up!! Er..glad I'm not made of glass!!

yep, He's a KEEPER, Wench! wow LOL

Do you guys dumpster dive? When I was in college I swear I got more ideas out of the dumpster behind the art building than the art classes inside the art building. Some of my studio furniture I still use today came from that dumpster. People always look at me strangely when I talk fondly about dumpster diving.

As for sounding strange I did just tote home and then tote to the class I teach a half a palette of broken beige tile in a small toyota(it took two trips). Try sounding sane to the school's director when you explain that you have a car load of of tile, broken tile, to unload. I still haven't a clue what to do with all this beige.

Ahhh, Ya make me proud Mosaic Sisters!!! I helped a gentleman and his wife discover the thrill of dumpster diving at our local recycle depot (could tell that they had waited to savor this experience in their retiement years)After he had fished out his treasure from the metal bin, he looked down and noticed my new .50 shoes, which fit perfectly over my gardening shoes, and asked me "Do you drive with those on?"

HAHAHAHAH. Those are the funniest looking things!!! Whatcha gonna do w/them? DUH! We provide entertainment, or at least something to talk and wonder about, to the world around us, to say the least.

I wanted to do that yesterday on my morning walk! I saw a car with the real black window glass broken out, and I wanted so bad to knock on their door, and ask for the crash glass when they repair it. Wish I would have, it was already
    replaced this morning.

Oh Calamity, You've made my day. That is so funny!! ROFLMAO

those shoes look like you got them straight out of Big Bird's closet!!!

and as for dumpster diving..heck, I was doing that, way before it had a name of dumster diving.
I was in grade school, the first time I was inside a 'give away' box..
a girlfriend and I used to crawl into those, back in the late 50's and early 60's...lol
Archie and Veronica, Captain Marvel.....the Lone Ranger..
if only I had the stash of comic books we scavanged!!
the 10cent ones with all the characters...we just devided them all up and each of us had our pile of them at home.

then, about the freezer door, at the grocery store....
my oldest daughter was shopping with my youngest grandson, when he was barely 2 years old (he's 3+ now)
and when she got to the register, he was out of sight...and she couldn't find her wallet..she got out of line and began the search for him...up and down isles..
then, she comes around the corner, where an elderly man and lady were pointing to the freezer..."look! there's a little boy in there!!"
she turns that corner and she yelps!!that's MY boy!
he was in there banging on the door, to get out...
he said it was too cold and wouldn't do it again..lol

I love the stories! The other day I had to pick up my check in a town nearby, and a lovely lady from freecycle (remembering my search for blue bottles months ago...) had left me a pretty bottle there. Kind of a central drop-spot. Well when I picked it up, there was also a bag with a broken plate in it that my boss had dropped. She knew I did mosaic, and brought it in to add to the bottle!

It's too bad that there have been law suits that prevent us from foraging through "good stuff" at the dump anymore. I remember doing that when my dad would take me along for a dump trip. I guess I started young! What we artist/recyclers could recycle could save a ton of space in landfills! Good for you, I hope you get your door!

well, it's been a week and a half and no call... I decided they wrote me off. shrug

so I shopped last night - IT'S STILL THERE! so maybe I'm not out of the game yet!
