mosaic backsplash tips needed

I saw a beautiful backsplash made out of slate. It looked easy for a do it yourselfer. I was wondering if there is a mesh one can buy to do their own, and if so where can I get some. Also what is used to attach the stones to the mesh. As you can tell I am a newbie at all of this.

The mesh can be purchased from most mosaic tile sites.
You can use Weldbond or silicone to adhear the tiles.

Mosaic art supply is one of my favorite websites so you might check them. They also have a nice FAQ section that might give you tips on adhering the mesh.

The only warning I will offer with slate is that it is uneven and quite messy. My husband tiled our daughter's kitchen floor with slate and he was quite frustrated with the uneveness of the tiles and when it's cut, it is dirty. I was just in BJs restaurant today and they had slate floors with a high gloss sealer. They looked beautiful.
