HOW BEAUTIFUL is THAT, CAC!!! This does NOT look like a "first SG project"! What a lovely piece! How many classes were there to the course? Enjoyed looking at those wonderful borders again. You and CALAM make those square petaled flowers so well.

Cac, that rose fan is beautiful! Quite attractive. I agree that soldering can be a challenge but as with everything, I found practice really makes good (not perfect, for me anyway).

Slow ~ There were 7 classes. You make the project in clear glass first - which was a good thing - what a sight that thing was. Then you put that in the cupboard & bring it out everytime you make another thing.

I still see lots of globs of solder. I solder too heavy. I can't get my left hand to lighten up when I use my right hand with the soldering gun. Lots of coordination needed. But practice makes perfect.

Now I have to take all projects to the shop & when he sees I've improved enough I might can get in on an intermediate class. It's only $6 a class - my aunt really wants to go - I just don't have all this time to do everything & I just wanted to learn how to cut glass to make some cute mosaics. This has kind of spiraled.

My MIL gets this one. She can't wait.

I'm making a coffee pot for in my rose garden where it will be pouring into a mosaiced cup (birdfeeder) & some stepping stones. I've been cutting some glass up for when my Mom & aunt can come over & make stepping stones like that gorgrous coneflower one, LOL! I love family.

But everything is hit or miss this year as stepDad has cancer & dieing. Just finished radiation treatments this week - that was a trip - in a wheelchair on the second floor apartment & no elevator! So my nerves are raw & am there to help with the tests, drs, etc. It's nice to sit down & make something pretty with all of this going on. My DH loves it all. He's not one for bright colors but he's coming over.

I finished my leaf fountain & put in new plants this week. Can't wait for Mom to see it.

Sorry about your step-dad. Went through that stuff several times. Very draining.

Great job! I've also made that. I gave it to my mom for mothers day several years ago.
It looks like you did a really good job on the cutting, and the solder doesn't look too bad. Yes, it will get better with practice.
Sounds like you have a really good teacher. I'm glad he inspects to see how you're doing before you progress into the intermediate level. I've seen too many people that didn't get the basics down and go on to make sloppy projects, one right after the other. I say if you're going to take the time to try it, do it right.

Wonderful job on a first project. your next projects sound like lots of fun. Sorry to hear about the step dad, I know it is exhausting dealing with the stress of it all. Your projects will be a good diversion for you,

Looks waaaay better than my first projects!! I have thatpattern, but haven't tried it, still got taht darn peacock staring at me everytime I go into my art room!!! It's nice to get some stained glass stuff here too since we are all mosaic addicts!!lol! Towards the fall I'll be back at stained glass again, it's so nice to work with all that color!! My DH is enjoying my projects more and more all the time too!!! I just have to say that I love your album!! It is so nicely put together and such a pleasure to look at!!! Jane

Wow...I love your project and I think you soldered fine!!!!! I haven't been making anything out of lead lately..or foil, or anything...but anyhow...you did great and should be proud. I really liked your album. It is way cool!!!!! All your stuff in there is gorgeous!!!

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments. I need to do something else in stained glass so I don't forget everything BUT there is just so many things I want to mosaic with the stained glass, LOLOLOL!

I figure on making suncatchers to get some soldering in - I want to be able to get in on the intermediate classes in the fall - summer is playtime - gardening & I wanted to give tufa a try this year.

Finished my coffee pot today - I think I will make the lid open to make it a birdhouse like I have seen in Garden Junk. I'll post pic when I have everything up in the garden. I made the cup birdfeeder & used gorilla glue to glue the piece on the base to sit on a rod. Big mistake. While drying the glue oozed EVERYWHERE down one side! I went to the web site to find out how to remove it - cured glue is removed with chisel, scraper, or sandpaper. What do you think are my chances of cleaning up this mess? Time to get out the dremmel & may have to regrout or maybe do another cup! Everything is an experiment.

So sorry to hear about your step-dad. I can sympathize with you about no elevator. When we found out my dad's cancer had spread to his lungs my SIL and I would alternate going to his chemo treatments with my mom so we could drop them off at the door and go park the car. As his health worsened he ended up needing oxygen and the medical supply company dropped off the machine and one portable tank and they were going to deliver more oxygen the next day. Wouldn't you know it that night they delivered the oxygen machine for him we had a terrible rainstorm and we lost power. My mom called us up at midnight in a panic because they lost power too and didn't have electricity to power the oxygen machine and the small portable one they had wasn't full and he only had a couple of hours of oxygen left in it. My hubby is in the air compressor business and we had a generator but our only problem was that it was in a storage unit where they lock the gates at 8:00 pm and we couldn't get ahold of anyone to open the gate for us so we could get the generator. Fortunately, Home Depot had recently opened a brand new 24 hour store about a mile from us AND they had not lost power, so they were open. My hubby and I went and we bought a brand new $600 generator which was the cheapest they had even though it had a big sign over it that clearly stated that it could NOT be returned (what choice did we have? My dad needed oxygen!) and then we had to find a gas station that had power and was open which took quite some time but we finally found one, got the gas and went to the senior apartment building where my parents lived and hauled that frickin' generator up five flights of stairs in the dark with only a small flashlight to see where we were going. Then we had to set up the generator using the same flashlight which by now was not burning as brightly as it had because my hubby and I are big (ok we are fat and out of shape) so it took us a while to get up those steps to their apartment. We finally got the generator up and running the oxygen machine just as his portable oxygen tank ran out! Phew...we were sweating bullets by then! Fortunately, power was restored early the next morning and when we talked to a sympathetic worker at Home Depot they allowed us to return the generator!!!

BTW...I love your stuff and good luck getting the gorilla glue off!

Yes, gorilla glue does expand!! I used it to repair a piece of furniture. It's great stuff, but you gotta keep an eye on it to wipe away the extra before it dries!
