    Wall opposite the Bay Window

    I think I would try to take advantage of the bay window and slide everything down toward it, maybe also add more seating--couch or loveseat, ottoman?

    The layout you've posted seems like you're really only using about half the room. Looks like you would like to be able to watch TV, work at a desk, and read in the room? I would agree that more seating (maybe a loveseat) and utilizing the bay window would be nice. Would the desk fit against the narrow little wall at the bottom of the picture? Then put a loveseat where one of the chair is and put one or two chairs in the bay window?

    The space with the Bay window is open to the Kitchen; it is intended to be a dinning area. I don't use a dining room. Thus I am left with a space that has no use for me except as a photo studio where I set up lights on rare occasions. If I shift everything then the chair wont be in front of the TV.

    Thank you for taking the time to look at my room layout.

    I want to have the chair in front of the TV, so that dictates the location. I do not need a couch; I live alone. Guests? Don't seem to have any, although that will change, I hope. Once I get my house ready, I might have a Thanksgiving and Christmas open house.

    No one likes to sit on a loveseat with another person; at least I know men don't. If I have guests, I will bring out some portable chairs, or they can stand. It is impossible to have enough places to seat more than three or four in this small house, so I don't see the reason to be cramped the rest of the time.

    I want to keep the area in front of the Bay window accessible because I use that area for a photo studio. I don't do commercial work, just some hobby shots.

    I am curious to know what you think of my choices for rugs.

    Here is the floor-plan with a two seat couch. The desk is removed; placing it against the short wall would compromise light switches.

    This looks good, the added end table will allow for a table lamp on both ends of the couch, and my wall art will look better with an object the full length of the framed piece.

    Do the end tables have to match? Do the lamps have to match?

    While I think the rugs are really cool, both in the same room seems too much for me but that's JMHO.

    Totally agree about loveseats.

    Here is the floor plan with only one rug, club chair shifted back and club sofa

    Club sofa and chair

    I am not sure about the pattern on the chair, would this drive me nuts? Maybe better to have the same fabric on both.

    This is my updated idea.

    Could you go with a larger 7 foot couch and some small narrow end tables like c tables or drink tables? Or do a sofa table behind sofa and only one end table? If you built in a banquette or window seat in the bay window and placed a narrow expandable table (maybe gate leg or drop leaf) would the area still be accessible enough for photo studio? That way you'd have extra seating plus an area that could be used as dining in case future guests would prefer to not dine in front of tv.

    Your rug choices are unique but maybe too much when placed in such close quarters.

    The wall with the loveseat is 10 6" so a 7 foot sofa will fit, but not leave much room for an end table. Also, I don't need a big sofa, and I'll need to move to a smaller place at some point, so I don't want big furniture. are you thinking that a bigger sofa will provide more seats for guests? I agree, but that is a rare occurrence; I have had one guest in, oh, a few decades. I agree that i need to have seats but I don't want to fill my small house with seats and feel cramped.

    I like you idea of a drop leaf table; I will look into that.

    How about just one map rug and another 'old world' style rug?

    I can never get sleep in hospitals. So, I'm frequenting this board too much tonight. Just a couple of follow ups:

    Vasi, you made it clear in the other thread that you do not often have guests over, so more seating for guests wasn't my intent. The larger sofa would be more comfy. Then again my family likes to "plop" down on/stretch out/fall asleep o a sofa in front of a tv. In my opinion, many people make the mistake of having a hodge podge of small items in small rooms (desk, bookcase, floor lamp, tv stand, side tables, chairs or a loveseat). The eye never knows where to look and suddenly the room begins to feel cluttered or small. Whereas, one larger sofa ( if it has less bulky arms) can actually fool the eye into thinking a room is bigger than it is. However with the more traditional rolled arms etc the same length couch can look crowded or shoe horned into the same room. I think one larger piece may provide less visual clutter than 2-3 arm chairs side tables, desk, etc.

    If it were me, I'd be tempted to do one 7 ft sofa in a velvet or maybe even some kind of tartan plaid and the map chair...

    You may find it is something like that large graphic rug that will visually shrink or clutter the room. Then again, you may find it adds just the right sense of busy coziness to your rooms.

    I have a hard time reading rugs over a monitor. Others on this forum are much more skilled and helpful in that department.

    Good luck!

    Thank you for your suggestion: I see what you mean by visual clutter. The smaller loveseat made the area seem small;

    The existing carpet is a dark brown and I want a rug that brings color and defines the sofa and chair into their own space.

    I can't find a rug-map that is big enough, maybe two together?

    I took the advice of iheartgiantschnauzer and went with an 82" sofa, this extends the end table and lamp and chair into the bay window area, but since I don't use that area, I hope this will be all right. the sofa does not extend past the wall and into the bay window area.

    So, here is a composite of my idea;
