soldering onto glass

Hi all! I'm over for a visit from the garden junk forum and desperately need some expert advice!

I took apart a stained glass lamp and now have a ton of glass panels. I want to attach rings on each side of the panels so I can then hook them together with with decorative chain, quilt style.

Now the questions, can I use premade rings or do I need to make them from solder? How do I attach these rings to the glass, can I solder them directly to the glass?

This is a pic of what I'm envisioning, the squares being the glass and the circles being the rings.

Becky, an option would be to outline your squares with copper foil (tape), put a thin coat of solder on the foil and then solder to the tape.

I would be concerned if you solder a ring to foil that's not a seam, the foil will pull away from the edge when you put any stres on it. Maybe you could solder came on each piece, then you could solder a ring to that without being on a seam.

Zinc, brass or copper channel would look better than came, it won't stretch and is smaller than regular came.

I was going to suggest what Yvonne said, can't see any other way, except...
I really love your idea of taking apart that lamp, by the way, and I was thinking about a glass on glass, or mirror, in a quilt pattern, that way the black grout or whatever color grout, would be a nice border! Sheesh, this is a great idea you sparked with these usually trashed lamps!! Something else saved from going to the landfill!!! I'm keeping my eyes out for them now!!! Glad you posted on this side!!!
