Tiger, I know what you're going through. You just need to get started. If it doesn't turn out like you want, you've got this wonderful forum to come crying to. We've all had projects we're not happy with, but we learn from our mistakes.
It's the perfectionist in you. That will become something positive later on, but not now when you're just learning.

Wheeled nippers are great for starters . . . .sometimes just nipping that glass gets you started.

I believe Beethoven was not happy w/his work, then there was Tschaikovsky (sp???), who hated his Nutcracker. It's the artist that's always seeking perfection and never achieves it?????

Tiger, I recognize what you have. It's more fun in the race than in the win. You did all the planning, gathering your materials (your race), and now you expect a win BUT you haven't trained yet. You will learn something from every project. I have been mosaicing for 3 years but seriously this past year (retirement). I still learn about mixing colors, sizing my pieces, choosing grout, etc, etc, etc. And the best part is all the friends here to help me and you. So as Slow says, get busy, start small, and you will be running your race and you WILL be a winner!!!

Maybe TOOMUCH still has a watering can to spare...Maybe the thing missing on your list to get you started is a DEADLINE! Tell you what--You take one of those flower pots, start gluing broken glass to it, and post a pic of your WIP in this thread by Saturday. Now, git 'er done!

I've got lots of things I can mosaic if I just get to it. I've been collecting stuff for several months now. I've laid tile before, but it was around a shower, all the same size, all the same color.

Slow - did you see a workshop on my list of gots - NOT. If I had a workshop I might have a work in process. I'm redecorating my kitchen and the table has been dismantled so I don't even have a kitchen table to work on right now. I know where there is a will there is a way and once I finally get my mind where I'm going to tackle it I'll work it all out.

d3bbi I think you got it exactly right. I said for 2 years I wanted to learn how to knit and was going to take a class, but of course I had to collect stuff first. I did finally take the class, but like I said it took me 2 years of thinking about it first. Hopefully I can do better this go round.

MW1 - I have nipped glass and I've even tumbled some. The only problem is I'm thinking I should have something in mind before I nip so I know if I need to nip triangles or squares. I know I'm making it more difficult than it is, but .... I can't tell you how many times I've laid out my boxes of glass and just touched the glass over and over, turning each piece over. I've even had it "speak" to me to tell me what it wanted to be, but I can only see that little bit of the picture and not the rest of it.

ladyronnie - I've got some glass nipped and tumbled, but I'll see if I can't get more of a WIP Saturday. I want to do the orange BB that someone else did, but I don't have enough of the right colors and I think it needs some mirror tiles too and they weren't on my got list either.

I've been working on redoing my kitchen cabinets this week and had hoped to finish them Saturday, but since it is my birthday I may just have to take the day off and see what I can do.

Oh, patience isn't a virture I possess, which is definitely a stumbling block.

Absence of a workshop is NOT a valid excuse - how about a makeshift table outside? It's a good thing you don't live near me cuz I'd throw my saw horses and a board of some sort for a table in my Jeep, fly to your house and park myself in your yard and get a switch and make you start.

Maybe you need some mosaic books to get you inspired. Just looking through them can give you all kinds of ideas to use some of the stuff you have. I will have to admit that the "hunt" for things can be addictive no matter how much you already have. Also, look online at pics and get some ideas from those.

If you have "part of the picture" just start!! The rest will come as you go!! Many times I've started with a small idea, then when I had that part done, the rest becomes crystal clear!!

Unlike most of the people here (I think), a lot of the time I nip as I go. I tend to change my mind a lot. There are some exceptions to that, of course.

Tiger, no excuses here. I agree with Shrty, I will cut and tumble glass then change my mind before I start so then I cut and tumble more glass. You need to change your language (say it, write it) to "I WILL do this" rather than "..but I need to do this ...", "I don't have ..." . Get Started today, now!

Just start, post a WIP. You will get SO MUCH encouragement here, you won't want to stop!

Been thinking of you, TIGER - and wonder what it is that you spend the MOST of your spare time on??? Hmmmmmmmm????? - my point is - you do what you REALLY WANT to do. Me - I WANT to mosaic, so I neglect everything in my WHOLE LIFE in order to do that. Don't know what your other hobbies are but if you REALLY want to mosaic, then ?????????

All I see missing are tile nippers... but you've got the wheeled ones, You'll start when you are ready. Jane
