Actually, slowme.., I cant take credit for thinking about a snake on rocks. I saw it in a mosaic book, and I cant for the life of me remember which one. Must have been one of those rare times in the library. It was "outdoor mosaic ....something. The snake was one color and they had green grass around it. I decided to skip the grass and make the snake more colorful.
I am on rock #4, lots more to go, but its fun.
Got to squeeze it in between gardening and other stuff, you know how that is.

BIANCHI: There are no rocks around here, but I'm going to start looking out of town, and if I have to buy a load of those rocks they deliver and dump on your property (and they're COSTLY), I JUST HAVE TO HAVE A SNAKE LIKE YOURS. That is just outta sight WONDERFUL.

Very creative! I don't like snakes but this looks great! I do like your colors and pattern. Please tell me where you got the orange tiles. I've been looking for some sparkling orange glass to go with some other dull, texturized orange glass I have.

Slow- go learn how to make your own rocks out of concrete. Here is a link but of course a snake would take a much smaller rock(unless you want a real big snake)

PEA: I KNOW how to make just about anything w/mesh and concrete - that's what the Puerta Vallarta workshop was all about, but I don't WANT fake rocks - I want REAL rocks. Some day I'll have them - just gotta get creative. I LOVE that snake, BIANCHI.

PEA: - to Mexico to learn to make armatures for concrete garden sculpture - not just rocks. I don't want to spend the time it takes to make the rocks, and to me, using the natural rocks would be more fun and interesting. I have thought of making a big fake bolder, but it's not on the list of priorities.

OHMYGOODNESS: Drooling w/envy here. I'm going Friday to a nursery that sells those huge bundles of rocks in a wire cage to see if I can beg them to sell me a few. Actually, I dug a new island bed recently in my front garden, and I'd like to surround it w/a rock snake. If they won't sell me a few, then I'll buy a bundle of them. I can always use them for flowerbed borders or somewhere.

Bianchi, thanks for the tip on the orange tiles. Last week I was on Mosaics by Maria and they were out of the orange glass mirrors. I'll check again.

I love this idea! I can't do a snake because I don't like them but maybe a lizard or gecko would work for me.

OK, Y'ALL!!!!! A guy who does yard work and other landscaping help for me occasionally stopped by today for a visit on the swing patio. When I told him I was looking for rocks for my mosaic snake, it was after I had explained Gypsie Woman, and how it was made. He THEN shamed me for not using the same technique to make my rocks, instead of spending a bundly on a pallet of rocks. OK, already! PEA - I'm gonna give it a try, starting right now. I've been working outside since 8:30 a.m., and am very tired, but gonna try to start the first rock armature.

Rocks made by Slowmedown....hmmmm.. can't wait to see that!

bianchi....Just realized I hadn't commented on this....I just LOVE IT! What a fantastic idea - to do this on rocks. Can hardly wait to see it finished.

O.k., I know I am supposed to be working on my snake, but all it needs is grouting (black) and I just dont feel like it right now. In the meantime I wanted to do something fun and small, found this wooden apple at the $ store.
Having more heart surgery (big) this month, so I needed a quick fix, before I go in.
