Slow, this is wonderful in all aspects! The fact that you made it from scratch to start with and then mosaiced it beautifully. I don't think we have as much time in the day here in Florida as you do in Texas. There must be something funny there. We sleep and eat here. No telling what you would do if you lived in Alaska right now with sun up 24 hours. : )

I'll tell ya what she'd do - slow would be cranking out so many fabulous projects so fast that we'd all have to go to Alsaka just to prove to oursekves that there's only ONE of her!! Sometimes I swear she's gotta have an equally talented twin we don't know about! Love your snake design, too, the black glass is perfect!

HAHAHAH! Y'all make me LOL. Just tried to take a nap but couldn't. I've been working in the yard all week, digging new beds (creating more places for the head gardner to weed), planting, weeding and cleaning and neatening up the edging, and just crammed this piece in cuz I was anxious to see if I could. The wire was left-over scraps from Gypsie Woman, and it went together quite easily. I'm also thinking one could ball up and squash chicken wire and cover it easily too, but I KNOW this technique works, so am content to stay w/it. Thanks for your nice comments.

Have to correct what I said about thinset coming through the mesh. I used the thinset I bought to mosaic/grout. I used three parts play sand w/one part Portland cement to push through the mesh to make the "rock".

I am truly slow!! When you do the next section of the snake would you take a picture of the mesh, then a picture as you add the mixture to it. I can't get my head around how it is hollow. I like the idea of being able to get the right size and shape "rock". I am just getting into this but am enjoying learning. Thanks.

I might have a lot more time on my hands. Just got out of the hospital after dodging a bullit. I went in for a test because I was sort of short of breath, when coming up the stairs and was too tired to go biking, one of my fave activities. Well, they kept me and performed angioplasti. Major blockage on my coronary artery, almost 100%.
So I count myself blessed right now.

Of course, they are in decending order cuz I posted the pics as I finished a step. I WILL do as you request, and post the steps of the next rock - won't happen 'till after the busy weekend coming up. Gypsie Woman was my first efforts at the wire mesh armature making since the one I did in class in Mexico. Hope it helps clear up your puzzlement.

Hey slow, ever use gutter guard as your armature? Its a wire mesh that is just the right width to cover your gutters, it comes in a roll. It is very easily bent by hand but seem sturdy once bent. I used chicken wire stuffed with newspaper when I made my concrete fountain base. I wasn't happy with the ungangliness(sp?) of the wire.

Thanks, y'all. PEA: I know what the gutter guard is, and I believe the mesh Riana recommends is much stronger. As KLINGER said in CALAMITY's Riana pieces, the strength of this wire is important in this technique, especially the double thickness of the wire. Even though it's tough for my arthritic hands to handle, I'm sticking w/it. A bench is twirling in my brain. Now to find someone locally to bend the rebar to shape to form the legs, or I may stay w/my original desire to make Riana's scalloped-edged table. So many ideas and I have to waste six/eight hrs. in bed sleeping. GYPSIE: You l'il whirlwind - useless you are NOT!

You just use your hands (or feet LOL) to bend it?And I need wire snips, right? I should have some,but I just can't find any. I guess I'll have to force my self to go buy some ;-)

Bianchi- So glad they found that blockage in time!! Wow, You should feel better now. A driver at work had an 80% blockage and he says he feels much better now!! Mosaics is good for your heart, you know ;-)

I love your idea of making your own rocks! Nice and light, and any shape you want! Love your snake head, I hate snakes and even just looking at him gives me the heebie jeebies! Maybe I can get over my fear if I make one. lol!
